question from Potential AT&T customer

My wife has decided that she has to have an iPhone but nothing at AT&T really jumps out at me. I see where there are rumors of a few cool phones coming out soon.
My question is with VZW you get 30 days to return a phone for any reason, do you get the same sort of grace period from AT&T?
I want to go ahead and switch to get my with the iPhone but I'm looking at either the BB Bold 9700 or Nokia E71x and would probably rather the Palm Pixi or one of the other rumored phones heading to AT&T.
Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

OK, so VZW may get the iPhone and the Palm Pixi. I'm so incredibly unhappy with the phone I have now the Samsung Omnia that I've pretty much lost all loyalty to big red. Which is saying a lot since I was actually a GTE customer before there was a Verizon Wireless. Also the sales reps in every VZW store I have gone into lately seem too busy to help me but I have been seeing really good service in the AT&T stores that I have visited.
With all that being said, does AT&T have some sort of grace period where you can return a phone for any reason and get a different phone without it affecting your contract or having to pay full price? VZW has 30 days I think.

I'm sure they do, why don't you ask them?

I hate to say it, but when you went to the ATT store, you were a potential new customer while at the Vzw store, you had a tech issue (and during the holidays, their quotas most likely go up. It's a terrible reason, but it's enough for some people.

Omnia was a huge disappointment. From what I've read, the Versa had a more capable processor than that phone.

I'm not saying that this is all (the people at att store could be genuinely better people for all I know)but it is something to consider.

Unfortunatley the VZW store closest to where I live is in Plano TX. it must be where they send the problem agents because I've never actually bought a phone there. I go in to look and if I say I'm looking, which I always do no matter what I'm shopping for I see 6 agents standing there talking and no one will answer a question. This is what I have seen at this store since it was built, 3 or so years ago.
You have always seemed to have good answers to questions, I wish your store were in the East Plano TX area I'd probably be a customer. I would actually rather get the Palm Pre but my wife has pretty much decided she wants an iPhone. I don't have much use for one, but she does have an AT&T work phone so she knows the coverage is good where sh...

Yeah, Menno is a great person on here. If she has a AT&T work phone, couldn't she get the iPhone and put her SIM card in it? Or is the phone she has a phone that her job says she needs? But, the Pre Plus and Pixi with WiFi are coming to Verizon for sure. I am sure Verizon will get the iPhone because of Apple making the CDMA/WCDMA iPhone and Verizon saying they are almost done with updating the network so it can handle data and voice from what the iPhone produces.

I must have missed a reference about the computer, if you mean sign in when I get to the store then I don't think the stores here have that anymore or they must only bring it out when they are busy. I generally don't go into wireless stores if they are busy. I understand sales and I don't go in to waste sales people's time, I usually look at my leisure and if I have a question then I ask and if I am ready to buy I find that usually someone who is helpfull when I am just looking is a good person to deal with. I know this is how the reps make a livling so I would never command someone's time for more than a couple of minutes unless I was ready to commit. But like I said I usually only go in when stores are not busy so if there are 5 reps and 2...

Lazy sales reps are why I never felt guilty about the activations I sold in the house code. I never understood how someone making commission could be complacent.

No store anymore. They fired me because I'd rather get customers for life than screw people over to inflate numbers.

I'm glad I can be a help here though 🙂

That is a shame but unfortunately not very surprising. I've worked in Telecom for over 15 years on the vendor/carrier side. I don't think I could do retail sales. And I know everyone complains including me but it is a loss anytime someone who truly cares about their work gets pushed aside for doing the right thing for customers.

Verizon is getting the Pixi, adding WiFi to it. Also is getting the Pre and adding something it (Calling it the Pre Plus). We already started traning on it. Your area must be a big Verizon area then. Every Verizon store this time of year is going to be extreamly busy. You think AT&T was nice, wait till later. They don't care about anything. That's why the ratings for them are so low. I had around 60 people port over from AT&T this weekend because the lack of customer support and network problems, not to forget the Buy one Get one free on the Droids and BlackBerrys and huge right now.

I would recommend the 9700. I may not be "cool" in some aspects but it is a damn fine device.

The e71 has a solid feel, but the user interface is archaic.

You would have the full 30 days to try out phones.

I'm the exact opposite. 😎
Since Blackberry shrunk their keyboard from the original Bold I have trouble mashing out messages as quickly.
And I've used both the new Bold and the E71x, and I think the E71x had a better keyboard. Even though strangely I believe it's roughly the same size as the iPhone.
But yes, Nokia's OS is showing it's age. ☚ī¸

I agree that the keyboard should have been somewhere between the size of the 9000 and the 8900. But its not a huge complaint for me. I was used to the 8900.

took a little searching on the AT&T web site but it looks like you can return a phone once during the first 30 days.
Looks like I'll probably go with the Nokia E71x but I really wish they carried the E72.

Well you could always just fork out the cash for the E72. Then sell the E71x on Ebay or something to help make up the difference. 😕

Yes. AT&T has a 30 days Buyer's Remorse Exchange period. If within 30 days you find that you don't like the phone you can return to point of sale or take it to a company owned retail store and exchange it. It will not effect your contract, you will not have any penalty fees. You can go to www.wireless.att.com and search for the term buyer's remorse and there you will find more information.
