Cingular or Verizon - Central NJ

I really think that the phones offered by Cingular are much better than Verizon... I want to switch but my wife is afraid of poor service... any feedback from some one who switched or some one in central NJ that has Cingular would be helpful 😁

In most cases it going to be based on where you are at when you need to make a call. Each carrier is different in several ways but similar in others. One easy way is to activate a Cingular line and if you are satisfied then keep it if not then return it within 30 days and keep VZW.

Keep Verizon if you do not have a reception issue.

Cingular has no customer service. They have people to answer the phone but they do nothing, not even record a complaint. For example, my bill is adding incorrectly for a few dollars to their favor. IT/IS got blamed for it, no refund and she would not make a note of the error. The website has a convenient circular feature that when trying to e-mail them it makes you log in, then when clicking on e-mail it returns to the log-in screen. She made no note of that.

At Verizon the customer service people are empowered. I am in my 7 days of testing Cingular and will be moving back to Verizon. Cingular will hold my phone number hostage and I will gladly lose it.

Don't do Cingular.

Vingular is not as bad as you are making it out to be... Maybe you are having a slightly bad experience but not everyone does.

NJ "should" be good. I hope there's somebody from around there who can give you a first hand report. If you post up your zip code I can pull up a coverage map and verbally report the findings.

It looks like service goes down to around medium in the less populated areas. All the "villes" and "towns" are high coverage and I see no "no service" areas in a 25 mile area around your zip code. It looks like your closest store is Atlantic Wireless in Morganville, likely an agent but not all are unkind.

For first hand experience trust Jackie. 🙂

Here's a link that will show coverage for your area. I don't see any no service areas anywhere near you like Cingular has. I speak with customers from your area on a regular basis and receive no complaints. If reliability is of concern, Verizon Wireless definitely has the most reliable nationwide network. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/CoverageLo catorController?requesttype=NEWREQUEST

He already has Verizon... and if you would've read the thread you would've also read that we don't have any no service areas within twenty five miles of him either. I would've said fifty miles, but that puts you out to sea and I'm not about to say we have coverage there.

I'm only responding to Ralph's earlier posting. I've copied and pasted below. Ralph states that there is no service outside of a 25 mile radius. I'm simply stating that this is not the case with VZW. What war am I trying to start? I'm only trying to be helpful to the original poster.

Mr Tenured, thank god you are a VZW rep and not an english teacher.

Thanks for the help, but the Cingular rep said there _IS_ good service by saying "no 'no' service", which is a double negative.

He used the 25 mile area radius because Cingular reps have access to _DETAILED_ mapping software with actual signal gradients, not just the big orange map that they have for the peons.

Verizon, on the other hand, has the big red map, and no ground level signal statistics for public or private use (well, maybe to the field techs, but I never got the opportunity to ask one).

Verizon's best coverage is slowly becoming a myth.

Reps have detailed ground maps with tower locations. VZW has excellent coverage in and around his area, and the other areas he mentioned reliability is important. I understand that you want to start some kind of flame war or something, I'm not interested. Just trying to help this individual.

If you really have no intentions of starting a Flame War, then just apologize for misreading ralph's post and there's no issue

He said there was no service beyond a 24 mile radius. There is no apology required.

end quote

when he says "I see no "No Service" areas within 25 miles. It's a double negitive and bad grammer. This statement however means "The customer will have service within 25 miles of their home."

Central NJ- I live right over the bridge from Trenton, and my father has a construction company in Trenton, and my uncle in Hamilton. I have no issues through there... All up and down Route 1, the turnpike, I-195 no issues... Is there an area specifically you are questioning?

Morganville area... Pretty much up and down the highways you should be okay... There are some "shoddy areas" but the same thing applies with VzW. If you have specific addresses that you want me to check I can. Hope this helps. 🙂

Cingular sucks. It is bad service, bad customer service, and they lie to thier customers. It would be a mistake to go to them. I dont know how bad Verizon it, for all I know it coud be worse, but Cingular is horrible, dont switch to them, whatever you do.
