Gizmodo says

"How utterly BAD is the iPhone on AT&T in the New York area? The average iPhone drops 30 percent of all calls. And that's considered acceptable by Apple. (Acceptable) yes because there's an app for that

Giz reader Manoj took his iPhone to the Genius Bar to have it looked at because it was dropping calls left and right, and AT&T swore stuff was totally kosher on their end, so he thought something was wrong with his phone. After doing a stat dump, the Genius showed Manoj that his iPhone had actually dropped 22 percent of calls.

The jaw dropper: The Genius told Manoj that's actually excellent compared to most people in the New York area, where a 30 percent dropped call rate is the average. There was nothing Apple could...

Buy an unlocked phone, sell his iPhone on ebay. Call AT&T and update his IMEI number to reflect his new phone, and switch out the data plans.

If Manoj ain't willing to part with his precious iPhone, then I say T.S.

I'm just amazed at how good apple is at brainwashing people. They have people convinced to pay 2-3 times the going rate for service and get 20-30 times the dropped call percentage. I wish I was that good.

It's a case of to each his own. It happens everyday in the world. Some people are willing to put up with certain flaws in a device because of other advantages it has. In the case of the Iphone, users accept that it is not the best phone but all of the features that it has that attracted them to it---keep them with it. I've seen relationships like that. You'll never convince them to leave the Iphone no matter how much sense it may make to do so. Hell, despite everything if I didn't have two lines (out of four total) with huge ETFs, I might port all four of my lines over just to have that wonderful toy. I do not blame AT&T at all for their willingness to do whatever it takes to keep their exclusive agreement with Apple.

I think the whole thing sounds like BS. I have an iPhone and I live in the Raleigh NC area and travel all over NC and SC for work, I think I have dropped maybe 3 calls in a month. None of which could be blamed on the phone, they were in dead spots that I also experienced with Verizon. I'm not saying that the iPhone is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's so funny how bitter people are about it - usually right up until the time that they get one.

It sorta like buying a car - sure a Honda Accord might be more practical, have lower repair costs, lower fuel costs, and lower maintenance costs in general than a 7 series BMW, but which would you rather have?

Don't get me wrong I have played with the phone and it is a nice phone, I just don't know that I can justify the cost of ownership difference compared to other devices. I can literally take a Hawaiian vacation for the cost difference in this device and say an Android device over a two year contract.

Yeah, but all the cool apps. I am constantly bombarded with advertisements for Iphone apps, but I look at my 8330 and nothing so COOL! Darn.
