My sister is trying to switch from virgin mobile prepaid to AT&T Go Phone prepaid.

Can she walk into an AT&T store and have them transfer her number?

She can do it but it may take some time to process between the two companys. An ATT rep could give you more info.

She definitely can do it. She will need a couple of pieces of info for the rep. First, the old phone service should be in her name. The rep will need the cell phone number and her account number with the other company. She will also need any billing passwords on the account. VERY IMPORTANT: She should NOT cancel with her old service before trying to transfer her number. The transfer process will cancel it for her.

She will have what is know as split service for a couple of hours usually. She will be able to make calls from her new ATT phone, but any calls coming in will go through her old service. She should receive a text on her new phone after 2-3 hours telling her that the port is complete. At that time she can turn off her old phone a...

I think she got the prepaid phone from wallmart or the likes. And the minutes are paid for by my parents (oh their credit card).

So i'm not sure if she has any account number or billing password.

Looking at the Virgin Mobile web site, her account number is her phone number, but she also will have an account PIN, sometimes called the vkey with Virgin. We would definitely need those 2 thngs to get her number ported.

Thank you for your help. This will save her allot of time.

So, if she goes into the ATT store with:
Her phone with sim card
Her account number(phone number)
Her vKey(account PIN)

Then she can walk out with a prepaid, activated SIM card with her old number?

Just makin sure, ATT store is hour and a half away.

That pretty much is it. She would also need a GSM phone that is either unlocked or an ATT phone. The only ATT phone that cannot be used for prepaid is the Iphone.

Will the ATT store need to be in the same zip code as the old number?

I'v been using the iPhone with prepaid service for over a year. I believe they're required by law to let people activate their iPhone on prepaid service.

No, you won't get subsidized pricing, but iPhones aren't that expensive on eBay.

No the store will not have to be in the same zip code as the old one. However, it will need to be in the same area code market as her old phone.

That's just the first 3 numbers of it right?

For example her number is XXX YYY ZZZZ.

Only the XXX part has to match the stores location right?
