Once a sim has been activated in the system, and then replaced with another sim or canceled. It cannot be re-entered into the system. You must get a new sim.

That's not entirely true. They can now re-activate sims that have been cancled, just not replaced sims. They due this in the case of Relocations now rather than require an entirely new sim card number.

Well, you'll get a new number regardless when you relocate to a new region. The sim card you'll likely have to ask for. They should give it to you for free even if it's an authorised retailer. I'd ask before hand and if they try to charge, go somewhere else.

Hey fast responce, you must get notifications on your mobile device like me.

Now with regards to my mothers line. I'm going to use giving her a new sim with a 203 phone # as my way of telling her I'm home for good, do I have to have my mothers phone with me in order to get a new sim & #?

You mean like surprise her by updating her cellular number? A port generally requires having the phone present. Some agents copy IMEIs some require you to re-read them so it's always best to have it there. Also, you'll naturally need the phone to insert the new sim card. Theoretically you can get it done without the phone but it would be out of service till you arrived to insert the new simcard. I personally would work it out for you, but I can't speak for other locations. I'd just test call the sim in a different device and get the IMEI off of the prior account.

Hmm, well question about this IMEI stuff. What is the relevance? I inserted my sim into my N95-3 and I'm sure the IMEI to my N95 isn't noted on my acct.

Can't I just get a sim, call up 611 and give them the sim's # over the phone?

Not really. "Relocation" is a technical term for moving an account from one market to the next. If you are simply moving inside a market then it isn't a "relocation". It's simply a wireless number change($35) and a sim card update($0-25). So it really depends on where you are going. A Relocation must take place in a store because you have to re-sign your contract into the new market. Your dates do not change, but there is new paperwork for the change.

The reason the IMEI is important is because one is required to set up an account. When you relocate they close your old account and open a new one in the new market whith the same contract dates as your old account. To do this they need your IMEI as well as Sim. Most reps will simpl...

So with regards to giving a rep my N95 to put that IMEI on my "new acct" how would that work since my handset is too good for ATT and it is unlocked/unbranded. As of last month my mothers line is no longer under contract, and I haven't had a contract w/ATT in almost 4yrs. So therefore there would be no "contract" to update.

I see, they would still need to create an account, and your account dates would reflect the original end contract dates. You can use your IMEI from you N95 with AT&T. It wouldn't bind it to them in any way so there should be no issue there. As long as you have a phone with an IMEI to pair to an account. They require having something to put down for an IMEI.

I'm out for the night man. PM me if you need to know anything else.
