iPhone Agent - Rumor Mill

texaswireless

Apr 11, 2009, 12:30 AM
So phonescoop seems to be the place where rumors get started and/or they come to die.

I have heard from a couple people that agents may be able to sell the iPhone come May. I am extremely surprised this has not yet been posted here.

So, anyone else hear this from a legitimate source?

There was a rumor that I heard that we would be the first agent in the nation to sell it. Someone high up in our company told someone who doesn't work for us who knows me 🙂 Hopefully there is some truth to that.

Heard the same rumor. Only difference is that agents were going to get it in June with the new iPhone. Good way to boost features.

I figured if anyone got the iPhone it would be you guys considering your exisiting relationship with Apple. It was another agent who thought they would be getting the phone. I guess there is no strong information.

Thanks

I also work for Spring. I heard that we turned down being able to carry the iPhone cause of the cost. I am not sure if thats true though. It would be nice to get the iPhone but I am not heart broken if we dont. I love my Bold a lot more then the iPhone. I bet we will be able to soon though, we have a great relationship with Apple cause of our SimplyMac stores. What location are oyu out of?

I work in the salt lake valley(don't want to give too much away) I doubt that we would have turned it down because of the cost. I'm sure the subsidy is very high on it but even if the gp/opp was $100 dollars thats still profit spring would not otherwhise get, and thats not even including residuals and additional lines of service we would see from being a distributor. I think the whole cost thing was just to get us to shut up. At all the annual launch meetings they always say getting the iphone is a top priority. The bold is definitely a better phone but you and I both know people are sheep.

Who ever said there is going to be a new iPhone? They have not announced a new phone just an upgrade.

Just about every cell phone, tech, and apple rumor site has speculated about a new iPhone this summer. Hard to think that all of them are wrong, especially when some of them have pretty good track records on apple rumors.

True. Personally I hope it is a new phone in addition to the 3G. iPhone Nano?

I have heard that there is one with more memory(32GB?), better camera (3.0MP+), better 3G radio, and some other WOW app that makes everyone wet their pants. Maybe BB support?

I heard the newest hardware was to have an iSight camera as well...would make total sense since the Skype app was recently released and AT&T is beefing up the network to anticipate up to a 10x increase in traffic with the new hardware.

These rumors swirled before the iPhone 3G launch, although not as strong as these. I know, that when we have roundtable events the RAE's, RAM's and VP's of the region are always getting grilled about not being able to sell the iPhone. Sure would help agents during a recession. Let's hope our bit**ing is helping the cause.

Not only that, it would help at&t and apple. Not allowing us to sell the iphone is hurting apple. They are giving every potential iphone customer the opportunity to be sold on something else when they come into our store. It may not switch some die hard iphone supporters but for people who are open to suggestions might end up with a blackberry or something else that we sell and not the iphone. The fact that we can't sell it and walmart can is absolutely ludacris. If anything they should not allow multi carrier locations to sell it and just allow exclusive dealers to offer it.

I agree, Imagine if they would let us sell it. WE HAVE 75 STORES! I wonder home many people we have talked into not buying the iPhone cause we cant sell it.

I had a my friends over the other night and had some phone. We laid out some phones and tested them out...FULL BLOWN.

Nokia E71 Unlocked
Blackberry Bold
I-Phone 3G
Sony Ericsson K850

The Bold was faster than all of them when we started out searching for random answers.

The K850i was Fast as hell too.

The E71 Was Great with Youtube.

& The I-Phone looked has a nice huge screen which is cool, but it couldn't load any of our free programs or apps we were sharring through our Memory Cards.

That's the cold hard truth...

Yup. You and I know that as well as anyone who works in the industry knows that. Unfortunately .01 % of my customers work in the industry. The point is that we need additional sources of revenue and the biggest opportunity that we miss on a daily basis is the iphone. People are going to buy it no matter what because apple is brilliant at marketing its product and I'd be safe to say that even if people didn't like their iphone it would very un apple fanboyish to actually admit it.

After 3.0 comes out, there really won't be much to complain about. Battery life, thats really it. It's only going to be a liability going forward to not have the iPhone at Auth. Retailers.

As a reference, I've owned Mac computers my whole life and would never switch. Get a WinMo phone, wouldn't dream of it. I do, however, have a Blackberry and love it. I wouldn't trade it for an iPhone considering the current limitations. After 3.0 is official, that'll be a whole different story.
