Want to know about ATT service for 60148 - Chicago area

Ok, I want the iPhone - just because I do. My concern is the hoopla over dropped calls (since I do not get any with Verizon).

Can anyone tell me their experiences with ATT service/dropped calls in the Chicago western burbs? I live in 60148 area. I live in an apartment high rise, always have coverage within the building. Work in a hospital and always have coverage within the building - yes great coverage.

My concern is the complaints I have read about that talk about the service of ATT. I know Verizon is the best with coverage, but I got the itch for an iPhone.

Although I don't have any experience in your neck of the woods. I do know lower frequencies IE Verizon have better building penetrating abilities than higher ones, IE ATT.
There are places at my place of work that'll I'll loose 3G all together with ATT.

thats because ATT runs data on 1900 and Voice on 850 so even if you do not get "3G" you will still get voice- since voice calls are more important than data to 95% of ATT's customers 🙄

Unless you have a iPhone. Like the original poster was looking at getting.

Does this mean that the iPhone has poor reception, more so than other ATT phones?

Thanks for the info link, helpful but confusing.

The confusion stems around the question: Is it the iPhone or the ATT network? According to one article, Apple fixed their end. If this was true, then all other phones on the ATT network would experience the same complaints (but I am not sure they do).

Questioning this was the reason I specifically mentioned my area (zipcode) so I may see what are the conerns in my area - about 30 miles west of Chicago.

Again, thanks for the link and any other info you may have.

you have to look at the demography they are suing in New Jersy and in New York- these 2 states are full of sue happy individuals that depend on lawsuits to make money instead of hard work- if you think I'm joking look at the Financial situation of both states, both rank among the highest in frivolous lawsuits and unemployment! they aren't because they aren't able to get work done they are suing because they are losing their houses and need money from anybody and are willing to do anything to get it.

Excellent point!

Well, I have decided to go the ATT store and check it out. IF they allow me to try it for a few weeks and then allow me to port my number after I have tried it, I'll go with it.

There are issues with all companies, unfortunately. I realize that many times we as people want the extraordinary, which is actually a good thing if used properly.

The iPhone is a utility that has many options I cannot get from Verizon, so I may take a chance and hope it all balances out.

I hope if I do make the switch, I am happy with the decision.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

I think your concern shouldn't be the area you'll be using the phone. But as you mentioned the buildings you live and work in.
Because ATT's service is great in my area. But as I mentioned when I'd go into the bowls of my workplace I'd loose 3G.
I'd say try the iPhone for awhile and see if it'll work for you.
You can rent em'.

This is incorrect. Voice and data are on both frequencies. Originally 3g was deployed on 1900 only but to increase building penetration as well as range they have deployed 3g on both 1900 and 850 mhz.

yes they started doing that but since they had 3G in chicago from the start they havent gotten back into the city to build to add the 850 "3G"

My friend who lived in St. Louis with me had an iPhone, moved up to Chicago for college and could not use her phone in her doorm or classes. She switched back to Verizon and is able to make calls and use data. She as well said she has never had a problem with Verizon, but had many droped calls with AT&T and data going from EDGE to 3G and back to EDGE. But, it's up to you.
