Advice about working for AT&T wireless

I have a great background in sales, although not in the cellular business. I have an interview at my local AT&T store tomorrow, and I was hoping to get some input from AT&T employees out there. How do you like working there? Any specific things I should be aware of in the interview process? What is realistic income potential for a great sales person. Even though I haven't sold cell phones, I am pretty current on the technologies and carriers. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Well I know that you have already had your interview. But I thought I would reply any way. I love it. I have been in wireless sales for 6 years and it is such an enjoyable field. The one thing I love about it is that it is always changing. The products I sold 6 years ago are nothing like what I sell today. They probably asked you a lot of "tell me about a time" type questions. They really like to do that. You don't usually have to have wireless experience to get a job offer. If you have sales experience then your good. I have seen them hire people that had no experience in anything, this being their first job. This is either a sink or swim company. You either sink because you can't sell or you are awesome and make good money. Well if your wo...

Thanks for the reply. I did have my interview although I'm not sure how it went. There were a lot of the "tell me a time" questions. I have experience in sales before I moved up to general manager at my old job. I think he took that as I didn't know about sales. He said I was the first interview, and he was going to give it a week to ten days before calling for a second interview. I think he said starting hourly was only $11.30. I hope I get it.

Yes $11.30 is the usual starting wage. You also get two yearly raises. Yes they use the "tell me about a time" questions a little too much. It is hard for them because at&t wants to have them have a tenderized interview process. This is what they give managers to they can achieve that. Well let me know what they say. If possible put your app at other locations around you.

I just got a call from a recruiter about a possible strike by AT&T workers; his offer sounded too good to be true ($15/hr) and of course I told him I was interested.

Any inputs AT&T workers?

The most recent round of negotiations will include discussion on the right to strike - that's a very long way from "strike looming".

That's also for CWA contracted call center employees. I have no idea what COR store employees are under, but I know that the CWA membership covers only part of the non-management AT&T Mobility workforce.

weak ass union members. so they might get the same benefits as the rest of us who aren't union. suck it up and grow some balls. if you don't like it, quit. quit feeding the liberal assholes that ruin business...

i was pretty pissed when we changed over, but ya know it turned out to be a good thing. we don't go to the doctor for dumb **** and when we do we call around and shop doctors. it's saved us some money. and.... without union workers around me i don't have to pull extra weight they create by being lazy.

I really didnt have a say in the union...the vote was made before I signed on. Truth be told, I haven't seen much benefit of the union as I'm a part timer. I will have no turmoil in my grubby little heart to cross picket lines. The bank doesn't care if AT&T is not fair, they want the mortgage check by the 4thπŸ™‚

I finally got an email from at&t, and it said that the position has been cancelled. Is that a polite way of saying no to me, or is that they are not hiring anyone for the job? I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't get the chance to show my sales ability.

From my experience canceled doesn't mean filled. Possible that because of all the strike stuff they will open again after that. But who knows. Good luck though.
