Am I the only one who has noticed that the verizon fanboys have been awfully quiet since the reviews of the Storm have been published?
...
My wife saw the Storm online a few weeks ago and was willnig to switch to VZW just to get it. Right now, we are trying the Samsung Eternity a867. Granted these are 2 different phones but with the common denominator - a capacitive touchscreen. I must say I feel better about my decision to get to AT&T rather than go to VZW. I am currently also using T-Mobile but most likely only until my Contract is up for expiry, at which it'll be time to port.

The many complaints about the Storm seem to center around the fact that it's a 1st gen device, but nearly all reviewers have positive things to say about the concept, just negative things about this particular device. More than a few mentions have been made about how the VZW/RIM software blend inhibits the performance.
What's ironic is by the time the GSM/HSPA(+wifi?) version comes out, it's likely to be much improved, and will likely be a bigger success on AT&T and T Mobile. VZW fanboys don't really have much to brag about yet, but it's possible that lots of people will love the Storm.

Considering it is not commercially available until tomorrow my guess is these issues are "expectation" problems versus actual problems. Customers may have far lower expectations so that the cool features far outweigh the smaller issues.

My point was that for the past two weeks, certain fanboys have gone out of their way to slam AT&T and the iPhone in particular. I just find it amusing that as soon as things look rough, they aren't here to defend their product.
For the record, I'm a bold guy. I just don't care for folks spouting unsubstantiated rumors that they call facts...
...
Keep in mind many of the bugs being reported are already being fixed and anyone with a Storm can receive the updated software over the air.
It's not like the iphone didn't have a few bugs. I'm not one to knock the iphone, I think its a cool device and great for the cell phone industry because it's leading to better and more create devices. Blackberry, like Apple, has a lot of loyal consumers and many will end up with a Storm.
There are a ton of orders in on both the consumer and corporate side for this device. Like most devices, it will have some bugs initially as reported, but they will be fixed with essentially no customer effort and this phone will be a success.
...
I have no doubt that the phone will be a success. RIM puts out good products, and more importantly, they support them well. I just dont think it will significantly damage AT&T's bottom line, just like the iPhone didn't put Verizon out of business(like some of the AT&T fanboys were screaming back in the day...)
I guess really, my point is, i hate fanboys.

I think business men are not going to like this phone, but that is my personal opinion. unless the storm can download PDF files, can it do that?
That is the only reason business people have the iphone 3G is because of the exchange mail with PDF viewer.
my job depends on PDF ing. Contracts, quotes, orders, all done on PDF

Blackberry's can view PDF's, Word, and Excel. They are business phones first after all.
...
its not going to hurt at&t. the iphone didnt really hurt verizon. both companies continue to do well. they both continue to grow at the expense of sprint 🤣 🤣

It is quiet, isn't it. I migrated to VZW and then came back to AT&T myself. Verizon may have The Network, but their phones just suck. AT&T has the best phone line up even if we don't have you covered out in the boonies and even if our 3G network is a little slow at times, at least our phones work (and we GET more than two bars in a designated "good signal strength" area) and we have SIM cards so you won't lose your contacts and the mobile backup apps from when your phone crashes.
...
the software on the storm is buggy because at the last minute it had to be rolled back to an old version when a security issue was discovered on the latest firmware.
get the punches in now because when the phones fixed and new reviews come out the storm is going to be a force in the industry.
and lets not forget that Verizon owns you guys everywhere else other then phones. more customers, best customer loyalty, best network, best customer service. FCC just approved Alltel purchase which makes the network even better, and the FCC just approved the 700mhz spectrum sale to Verizon which features enough spectrum to cover the US coast to coast. remember that?
Big V already dominates you in network, its going to get even worse for you guy...

like I said we are already #1. we dont have to take it. our phones are fine and they dont create dropped calls (maybe you are thinking of the iphone) and bad performance. if they did we wouldnt always be rated as the best network

If I remember right many people were saying Cingular passing VZW in customers with the AT&T purchase was not legit. Now VZW passes AT&T in customers and it is all good?
Big ole VZW doesn't dominate everywhere though. Nationwide spectrum is only as good the money behind it to build out the network.
I love Verizon but I am not myopic about their network.
...
Are you saying that Verizon doesn't have money to build out its network? are you kidding me? VZW is one of the most profitable companies in the US and has two of the richest parent companies around. yes, they have debt, but who doesnt? they can afford to build more towers dont worry.
...
Well i would hope they had the money, they nickled and dimed me and other customers for years, and stripped their phones down to where you had to pay for every single feature.
And sorry but this is how Verizon worked when i had them:
signal strenght test:
basement of a building in a major city- check
open field - no go
my home - no go.
I can get a call in my deer stand on my SE k850i and other AT&T phones and network but not on Verizon, may want to work on that.

And then you have places like my location where the only phones that work off the highways are verizon phones because ATT, sprint, and the rest dont see the profit in extending coverage while Verizon just made this whole area EVDO. 60% of the people in this area are prepay, guess who is getting most of those customers now?
You can have the coolest phone in the world, but if it doesn't have a network to back it, what good is it?
And how does verizon nickel and dime you? ATT plans are almost exactly the same, and unlike other carriers, verizon chargers per MB not KB, so they are MUCH cheaper without a plan.
...
Yes but see, all I care about is my opinion, and my cool UNLOCKED PHONE, works better in the same area my Verizon did not work in. SOOOOOO....
also if you charge by the MB and not the KB, doesn't that mean they just round up to the nearest MB? Or do they charge by decimals, with which the KBs would be included in the charge? ie .5 MB?
Yes Verizon may work for you, but down here it just doesn't cut it as well. It would have been one thing if I lived in some one horse town but I only live a few miles outside of Houston, which is one of the largest cities in the US. and regardless what the map says, the coverage is just as spotty as everyone else, except i found more flexibility with ATT, so if i choose to buy a phone unlocked, i can...

Verizon doesn't have the money to "instantly" build out the 700 Mhz spectrum, yes I am saying that. It will take a decade at least before that spectrum is even close to full build-out.
