Phone lock status

Are the world phones still unlocked. I got word that post merger Cingular started locking all their international phone except the 551/v3. Is care going to be able to unlock these now if they are factory locked to cingular sims only? Seems kinda strange that we'd only offer locked phones and no way to unlock them and still advertise international use when the roaming rates are expensive and not as extensive as the coverage area with an unlocked phone and international sim cards.

All phones Cingular now sells are locked. For a short time post merger, the V3 and V551 were unlocked. Cust care will not give out the unlock code since unlocking a phone voids the manufactures warranty. International roaming can be expensive but see if the customer qualifies for either the $3.99 or $5.99 discounted international roaming and long distance rates. Most of my customers are just happy they can use it over seas and are not too concerned about the rates.

Its true, to unlock them you need to go into CSP Portal they have to be on continouus service for 90 days to unlock them, a policy that attws used to have , and cingulsr decided to migrate over onto cingular policy. They ...

Yup, CSP has a whole list of when they will and when they wont unlock a phone. Do a search for "subsidy lock/unlock policy" and it should turn up.

Only Teir 2 Tech support is allowed to do it, but I don't even think all of them know how.

Nope, they lose all tenure when they migrate from blue to orange, the only that hangs around for first 30 days, is the blue contract, if they want to cancel the orange during first 30 days..

Question though. If I have 3 V505 phones on ATTWS plans, can those be unlocked also under the same polic? When I called up ATTWS business CC, they were clueless, and after 5 minutes of holding, they said it cannot be done. Any help would be appreciated.

No sorry, the policy for ATTWS, now cingular Blue, is we DO NOT UNLOCK THE PHONE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.We sell you those phones, on a discounted loss to be used on the ATTWS network, so the carrier does have the right to lock them to be used on OUR network only. Not trying to be mean, but thats the policy since GSM was launched by ATTWS.Cingular can't unlock the phones either for blue customers.

The fact is simply you take the good with t...
