You will have to have money on the phone to keep the number active. The cheapest way is to put $100 on it and that will keep the number active for 12 months. Less than that will keep it active for only 3 months at best. You will have to keep putting $100 on it each year or the previous money will expire along with the number and you have to start over.

There is not an "unlimited" Media Net package on a Pay As You Go (It is available on the Pick Your Plan as a $19.99 a month feature, but you pay $29.99 a month for the base plan).

You can purchase Media net on a Pay As You Go:

1 MB - $4.99
5 MB - $9.99

I am assuming you are tethering then. Unfortunately there is not an affordable prepaid option currently available for data only service.

The least expensive option is $60 a month for 5GB, and that is available only via a postpaid account.

You could get unlimited data on a prepaid service for $50 a month with the Pick Your Plan $29.99 + $19.99 Media Net, but that will not cover tethering. Using 500MB a month would probably cause some flags to pop up and jeopardize your service.

There are Prohibited Uses of network data, which are defined at www.att.com/mediaterm in detail. Some examples of prohibited usage:

* Server devices (such as web cams or P2P)
* Substitute for full time dedicated data connections
* Spamming, cancel bots...

Gophone does have an Unlimited Data package for pay as you go. $15 a month. Doesn't work for tethering though. If you want cheap Mobile broadband and are not going to be traveling with it, check to see if Cricket is availible where you're at. I think it's around $45 a month for unlimited.

My brochures in the store do not list an unlimited media.net option at all for Pay As You Go. I called a customer service rep and was told no, there is not unlimited. So I went online and downloaded the most current Pay As You Go Brochure from here:

http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/media ... »

It actually lists the Unlimited Media.net feature, but it is $19.99, the same as the Pick Your Plan.

So yes, apparently they are offering it for Pay As You Go, but for $5 more than what it costs on post paid.
