Can I use ANY phone with AT&T prepaid, if so how?
I've heard that ANY of AT&T's phones can be used with the GoPhone prepaid service, if the SIM card of my prepaid phone is placed inside the new phone... if that's not possible, does anyone out there know how I can use just any AT&T phone with their Pay As You Go prepaid GoPhones?
And if that's true, why doesn't AT&T mention it at the website when a person is checking out their prepaid phone selection?
I have a Nokia 2610 with AT&T GoPhone already so was sort of thinking since the phone is beginning to act like it's going to quit on me someday (like the phone, though)... I could get a truly nice QWERTY type device on prepaid to replace it?

All you are doing is putting your SIM from your 2610 into another phone. There should be no issue with that.
I've only been using a cell since mid 2006, so I don't have much experience. Started out slow and got inspired when I saw the QWERTY devices.
Do you know of a forum for people who do this sort of crossover thing and who can answer my silly questions about the how-to's and chat about it, get advice on which of the QWERTYs works best with GoPhone, etc...?
Thanks for taking time to comment, want to know more about it before investing in another cellphone.
I like the GoPhone balance updates after doing a text, or mobile MEdiaNet session. I check my balance on the cell by logging into My Account on the MEdiaNet homepage, that's pretty handy to be able to see how many texts left on my package, how much data transfer without getting on the online site and signing in.
I just recently switched the Nokia 2610 from Pick Your Plan to Pay As You Go and like PaynGo better, I get more use out of the packages since I do more mobile net and texting than talk.
I am kind of wondering if with a QWERTY device, I'd have to have a special connection service and that it couldn't be served by the usual PaynGo MEdiaNet service, fo...

Actually the pix text works now without a BB plan. I just took off the BB personal and have unlimited fam text and pix come thru just fine. Should be the same for PAYG.
only the new pearl and the curves will work with media net or media net pay per use. all others will require a blackberry package that cannot be activated on prepay.
I was over at the AT&T forums at their website asking questions and someone told me a little more about the issue.
They said they had done the SIM card swap with some Nokia QWERTY keypad texting phones (6820, 6822, E70) and were able to do MEdia Net, plus they could transfer their USD balance to the new device.
I checked out the Nokia devices they mentioned and they're pretty neat. They have foldout dual keypads on either side of the screen. They're older devices. AT&T used to carry one of them I think, T-Mobile did too, but not anymore.
I looked them up on Phonescoop too to see what features they had.
It's great to know this is a possible choice for PaynGo people!
I doubt if I w...

You will pay thru the nose though for your situation, due to the fact that you don't have a contract.
One solution might be to go on Pick-Your-Plan, that way you pay $100 less than full retail for the phone, at least at a corporate AT&T store. This would make the most sense if you don't already have a GoPhone account with AT&T.
I would recommend going to the AT&T website and looking at the different "pda-type" phones, and do a comparison on this site.
As an AT&T Mobility employee, I use this site (PhoneScoop) almost daily to help myself and customers make the best decision for their pho...

I bought my Nokia 2610 through the AT&T website (called the order in) and did get it for WAY cheap compared to the price I was quoted at the local store. It was so cheap I thought it must be a refurb or return, but no way would I complain about that on my budget, because it got me in the door to try the service.
Now that I know I can do that I'll be researching QWERTY devices. The Tilt looks nice, have heard someone say good stuff about that, but likely on my budget I'll try for one of the more basic or older devices, whatever I can realistically do. A refurb would probably be good to start with in case I wan...
