With all this hype about a 3g iphone( it wont matter cause we still dont have 3g in the hudson valley of NY..now there saying Jan.) is the signal any stronger or better than all the other at&t phones? I cant even take my at&t phone inside the movie theatre cause i get no signal but my "emergency" Verizon phone gets 2 signal bars. WTF!

3g should not affect your signal strength. As for ATT and VZW they are completely different technologies you're comparing. As they say its like trying to compare apples and oranges 🙂

I know 3g doesnt affect signal, but since the iphone is "superior" to all other phones, was something done to enhance signal?

Being a superior phone doesn't mean that it runs on a superior network. I get a great signal with my AT&T phones in movie theaters. However, I'm glad that you don't. No reason to yak and txt while at the moives. 🙄

Signal strenght depends on the coverage in your area. CDMA has better building penetration but I haven't seem much difference in my AT&T signal or anyone elses in the office who has Sprint or Verizon.

Also, the signal seems to be better when you pony up and buy a really good device. My iPhone and Moto Q9h both sound great but the "free" phones usu...

sorry. but a correction. cdma doesn't have better building penetration. 850 mhz has better building penetration than 1900 mhz. in some areas verizon uses 850, other areas 1900. sprint and t-mobile uses NO 850 for thier own network (though it is supported through roaming agreements) tower location is also a factor.

Thank you for that correction I hate it when ppl talk about something they know nothing about!

There are some phones that simply work better in some areas than others do! iPhone works great in some areas and horrible in others.. I have used most phones that have come out in the last couple years and I have to say the iPhone is not the best at reception. My blackberry 8310 works better than the iPhone and often there is an ...

um... you said.

The iPhone will be capable of communicating on 7 frequencies which should equal superior call quality although the 3WCDMA (HSDPA) frequencies will be mainly for high speed data transfer.

i said only 4 will be used in the US, and that will be GSM 850/1900 WCDMA 850/1900, but you can only use ONE of the select 4 frequency ranges at one time.

I think the person may have meant that CDMA tends to do better in low signal areas and GSM doesn't. That's possibly what they meant. CDMA tends to sound the same no matter how many bars you have and GSM voice deteriorates as you drop bars.

And I have yet to use a WCDMA phone, but isn't the voice quality more similar to CDMA works?

What's hard to believe? You buy better quality which means better chipsets, radios, etc. In higher end phones, you can be paying more for features, but the freebies are always lower quality builds. It's not always the case, but I find that 9 times o...
