a few things about the iPhone 3G...

this is getting ridiculous. apple is still missing the basis of most consumer uses for a phone... no mms??? anyway.

at&t and apple are both messing this release up big time. at&t is going to subsidize the cost and eventually get the iphone on par with the razr. at&t will lower apples quality and apple will be the ultimate looser here. one thing i liked about the iphone was that it took some control away from at&t and let the manufacture do what it does best. this sucks for consumers. also, at&t is raising the data feature up 10.00??? they are taking away a huge selling point for the iphone. at&t is so arrogant that they are forgetting that verizon is about to take the number one spot and thus taking away another selling point at&t has. e...

Maybe they were anticipating the "free" wifi. This does though put it on par with the other smartphone devices (PDA and RIM). I also think those who wanted the iPhone would pay that anyways. Why give a discount if it does the same and more anyways?

For agents who cannot carry the iPhone (fewer and fewer reasons why not now so who knows) it helps because we don't have to sell against a lower priced plan if you like the Tilt, Q, Curve, etc.

They are subsiding a phone so that means they are losing money already so they need to make it up with other means and that is raising the price points on everything the device touches especially since Apple takes their cut on the device too. AT&T’s CFO said that they are going to be losing 10 to 12 cents this year and next one for earnings. This deal actually hurts AT&T so they need to make it in other places. They do have shareholders that they must answer to.

I stated this in the other forum so might as well put it in this one. Many people have stated that AT&T is “arrogant” and “nickel and dimes” people when it comes to this price point and deal, however, they are wrong. AT&T is subsiding this phone, which means that they will pay upfront costs plus the monthly revenue that the device generates to go to Apple. So of course, AT&T will have to increase certain price points on the device to make it worth their while. This deal is hurting AT&T even more than anyone else and who knows if this will sell very well. Frankly, if it sells even more than expected, AT&T will be hit even more. They will lose (AT&T that is) 10-12 cents per year for 2 years or more based on the current ...

AvgJoe I have seen your comments about Verizon Wireless and how much you prefer ATT. I understand that you like ATT and GSM service and that they have kept you happy up to a certian degree. I however like Verizon Wireless and have been a CDMA fan for a really long time. However I never fail to give ATT thier credit but it seems you fail to do the same for Verizon and believe that is ignorance. I also have noticed that anything possitive that Verizon Wireless does you manage to make into some thing negative or even twist to reflect something that it is not, but when ATT does something negastive and it is viewed that way by most of our feloow forum users you also change it and twist to reflect something possitve and basicly to defend your stan...

I know where avgjoe stands. From my standpoint I've had Verizon numerous times and I've had at&t for the last year. Verizon was fine, my family has it and it works fine for them.

My main reasons for breaking out were the CDMA limitations, Verizon's stupid UI lockdown, terrible phones(overall), and just a lot of limitations on making your own ringtones, bluetooth transfers, etc etc. I hate it. The one good thing about Verizon is they had great customer service. I literally have to call them once a month for the fam.

I love at&t, I have a corporate store by my house, customer care is good, I can use any phone I want, I can swap out phones whenever, I get a discount through work, I get FREEDOM, it's just all good. Plus, I can cho...

That is absolutely true. Sprint is probably losing money on everything they do. at&t will make less money over the next 2 or so years only to end up making a lot more money in the long run.

....get your facts straight. AT&T aren't going to pay apple squat from phone revenue anymore with the new device.

Apple's makin money with iTunes sales increasing, and the Application store launch.

Why is everyone making a big deal about this? The iphone is a device that is not the be-all-end-all in mobile technology that Steve Jobs is desperately trying to market it as. It caters to a specific crowd. And these people know exactly what they're getting into and must be willing to pay whatever att requires for all of its features. There's always the ipod touch as an alternative if the phone contract is not appealing.
