VZW and ATT will be the premiere carriers.

Tmobile will become the cost conscious customer's choice.

Sprint will bleed customers until it's doors shut down.

Smaller carriers will continue to be acquired.

I agree.

I think we are heading to a nation which has two wireless companies. Verizon Wireless and at&t. Both companies will have like identical plans and there will be little to no competition. will that be bad? who knows. if they both continue to have strong networks and unlimited mobile to mobile to large bases I think it would be ok.

You are right about the plans. The quality of customer service will be the deciding factor. I think we will still keep T-Mobile around...maybe Sprint.

US Cellular and other smaller companies will be acquired though.

I also think that Nextel will be sold eventually.

"think we are heading to a nation which has two wireless companies. Verizon Wireless and at&t." "there will be little to no competition"

Not sure if the regulators would like those two statements.

Unfortunately, it's ALL about money. don't you suppose somebody in those departments are getting their palms greased to play ball with merging companies?

My prediction is that this merger/buyout WILL be approved, although Verizon may have to dump some of its other, smaller interests in order for that to happen.

They will. Check out the map. They already overlap by 16% and that could be more but that is a rough guess given by a few contacts of mine at both companies.

Do you think the feds may require some sort of sell-off of their combined GSM networks, or CDMA overlap to their competitors for this deal?

It depends, because I do not know the exact overlap of the GSM side of things just the 16% total. VZW/Alltel would probably be forced to get rid of their CDMA assets over the GSM ones but there could be a combination of both. Until I know the scope of the GSM and CDMA assets, I cannot make a determination.

If the FCC will make the proper requirements, this could be good for all. Competition, when it's fair, brings out the best in companies.

Not just spectrum and tower assets would be under the eye, roaming rates would also be because Alltel roams with many companies.

Yep.

This could be a bad thing, but Verizon may HAVE to allow roaming in areas that maybe now are unavailable to other carriers because of existing agreements and policies.

Yes. If I remember correctly, when VZ and MCI merged, and AT&T and SBC merged, they were told by the regulators to fix their pricing. Therefore, looks like this will happen again.

Yes especially since the 180-day clock is ticking. We should probably see that 100 page paper shortly.

Their only competition would be based on coverage, and it would take place in local markets. In some markets, AT&T Wireless would win, and Verizon Wireless would win in other markets.

Sprint is not bleeding customers, it's Nextel that is losing customers. If Sprint dropped Nextel tomorrow, their numbers would be better. I just always notice a trend. If a web site claims a carrier to be the best, then people that don't even have service with them claim those stats are correct. If a web site claims a carrier is the worst, then again people bash a company they don't know anything about.
AT&T seems to get away with making giant, false claims, and people just eat it up. Maybe if Sprint started making fake claims, they would be able to add more customers.

ummmm....last time i checked Nextel and sprint were the same company. So if nextel is bleeding customers, it means Sprint is bleeding customers.
