Messaging phones?

stargrl78

Does anyone know if AT&T will start to offer more messaging phones? I really like the full qwerty keyboards, but the only ones really offered right now are the smartphone/blackberry style phones.

For example the enV style phone by VZW is kinda what I'm looking for. Are there any unlocked versions anyone can recommend?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The new LG Vu has a built in QWERTY keyboard on its touch screen.

Yep, I'm sure. When you go to messaging, you can use the regulr 10 key pad, or there is a keyboard icon that turns the screen sideways (landscape) and gives you a QWERTY keyboard. When you get through typing your message, hit OK and it will then allow you to send the message.

that's not the same thing as a qwerty keyboard. that's a virtual keyboard like on the iPhone. I think stargrl78 was asking about a phone with a tactical qwerty keyboard.

True, it is a virtual keyboard, but it has larger keys than a Blackjack or Curve, doesn't have to have a PDA plan for internet or email and has the ATT TV capability in the CU920. Still looks like a near phone.

Yes.... don't buy AT&T. Get Sprint they have a LG rumor a palm centro a very good price. with an simply everything plan for 99.99 you can use gps navigation, web, e-mail, text, picture mail, mms, sprint tv, sprint music store, unlimited talk, and no roaming or long distance on the fastest network.

i agree with the original poster, att should have full querty tactile keyboard phones which are non pda especially for the youthfull market. people who needs phones are kids who never had a phone before and all their friends have envy, voyager, alias through vzw and all though att has cooler phones but we don't have querty phones... so people who are in charge of phone selection... more tactile querty keyboard phones which are non pda.

when i was in retail these types of phones rarely sold. there was an LG model and a samsung model (i forgot model numbers, its been a while) - neither of which really took off. perhaps they were too early for the market, now that there is unlimited text and what not.

I was around when those 2 phones were out. The 9100 had the major flaw that it did not have a camera. It sat on the shelves and rotted. LG corrected that problem with the 9200, but by then, the phone had such a poor reputation that you could not give them away. True, they were ahead of the market, with no Unlimited Messaging package out at that time, but the phones just did not sell, even to teens who were texting at the time.

that may be so, but no seeing as how most kids have an enV, alias, voyager, rumor, scoop, enV2, etc....you would think att would jump on board. come to think of it, besides tmo's sidekick are there GSM, non-pda/smartphones that have the full qwerty keyboard?

There are probably some in Europe, but next to none headed to the US. I was at a training session on the LG VU yesterday and both LG and ATT are positioning this phone for not just the new ATT Mobile TV. They want us to show this phone instead of a Curve or Blackjack 2 for the person getting a QWERTY keyboard just for text messaging. As the discussion was earlier on this thread, the keyboard is a virtual touch keyboard instead of a "true" keyboard, but the function is the same. That is one of the reasons that ATT has bought 2 versions of this phone: the 920 with TV and the 915 without, to try and satisfy this market.
