BUYING A GAIIT NOKIA PHONE?!?

JMSA 540

Hi, I curently have a Motorola V551 and my reception\signal sucks here in my house. I'm on the $39.99 National Plan, 450 anytime minutes, 5,000 n&w, unlimited m2m...And I also have the media works pcakge 🙂...Was wondering if I could buy a nokia 6340i cell phone on ebay. Will this increase my recetion/signal when i am not getting any from my motorola v551 here at my house? And if i do buy this nokia phone, will i need to make any changes to my account, like my rate plan, any charges, etc.?....

thanks in advance!

There are no longer any GAIT plans offered so it won't work, as far as I know. I don't understand why CDMA phones always have analog backup while GSM phones do not....Anyone know? I thought maybe b/c they are phasing analog out in 2 years but it won't matter then I guess. I still have my GAIT plan from a few years ago and I plan to keep it as long as my 6340i lasts.

I believe I read somewhere in the Cingular forum here that they recently included the GAIT phones into the GSM plans. I might be wrong.

We are, but you would have to have the GAIT phone listed on the account (IMEI, ESN, and SIM) to take advantage of the TDMA coverage. In this case, it wouldn't be quite as simple as putting the SIM from your v551 into the 6340i

plus, you definitely CAN have GAIT phones on GSM plans.

you need the lastest nation plan. and if you do get that phone you need to bring it into a corporate store to provision it for gait.

if i were you id just get a Nokia 6010 it will give the same reception, because if gsm isnt working in your house analog wont be any better. buy it and try for their 30 days.

why would he want to go from the v551 (quad band) to the 6010 (dual band)? Wouldn't that reduce his signal? Or am I missing something here? 😕

yes, you are missing something. a quad band phone is for international roaming, US only has 2 bands and that 6010 has both. nokias for cingular and the 6010 in particular are rated as the highest in reception.

you are wrong, when cingular bought out attws, they immediately expired a.k.a, got rid of all Gait plans, the gait phone is only goos if you had a gait plan, otherwise the phone won't get tdma signal.Kinda like trying to play a DVD in a V.C.R.

You are wrong. When Cingular purchaesd AT&T, they retired the GAIT Nation plans and allowed the GSM plans to add the GTI01 and other GAIT SOCs to add the GAIT feature to a GSM plan. You can add the GAIT phone and enjoy its benefits all while having a GSM Nation plan ...

Yes, you can use a gait phone but to take full advantage of it's coverage, you need to call customer care to update your imei/esn number on your acct... If you do not call them with an ESN number then you will not be picking up the TDMA towers... And you will be able to keep your existing plan as well.

You can just swap the sim card out however you will still only be picking up the GSM towers until the ESN is added to your acct.

- Tip - Hit *#06# on your cell phone and it will give you the IMEI number and the ESN number if it is a GAIT phone without taking the battery out.

Anymore my customers (in the midwest) are not seeing the significant advantage of the gait phone over a good gsm phone as far as coverage, it is not a magic pill that makes you sprout a tower in your back yard like a beanstalk.

If you want better signal at your home, either

1. Get a broadband phone, its cheaper and guaranteed to get signal (if you cant get broadband, you are stretching to expect cell coverage at your house), or

2. sell your house and buy one where it would make sense to put a tower (e.g. more customers than just you within range of the tower?)

TDMA WILL BE SHUT OFF YOU MUST MOVE TO SOMETHING NEWER
