AT&T delivered strong wireless growth in the first quarter, reflecting the company's high-quality network, innovative services, attractive handset selection, extensive sales reach and continued improvements in operations. First-quarter 2008 results included:

Accelerated Wireless Revenue Growth. Total wireless revenues increased 18.3 percent versus the year-earlier first quarter to $11.8 billion. Wireless service revenues, which exclude handset and accessory sales, grew 17.1 percent to $10.6 billion. Revenue growth was driven by strong subscriber gains and continued improvement in ARPU (average monthly revenues per subscriber). AT&T has now posted seven consecutive quarters of year-over-year growth in wireless service ARPU, which was $50....

Total net adds were a little below my expectations, but given the TDMA sunset, I see why its so low. But I was surprised to see how many TDMA customers there still were.

Anyone catch what features were?

Can't wait for Sprint's numbers...So far MINUs 29 BILLION net income to avg,,,,-MINUS 73% profit margin....MINUS $10 Earnings per share....

Becasue if they fold you will be forced to go to a carrier who does not give away the farm... Thats why you care.

No company can stay in business long with those financials.

Oh pls it's not like the towers are just going to power off 🙄 worst case scenario is that someone just buys them out...Sprint has way to many assets to just disappear. I'm not worried. Rather hand with Sprint than deal with crappy gsm, or verizon lame phones.

Just wondering...what do any of these comments have to do with ATT having a good quarter?

I know that you like Sprint service, so do i. It works best for me and i agree that they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Things will turn around.

But why come here and bash ATT on a thread about their good numbers? I'm sure there are other threads that bashing them would make sense.

Now, I'm not going to tell you to do that. It's like in sales, if you have to bash the competition to try to get a sale instead of making a case for your why your service is better than theirs, then you shouldn't be selling that product. Know what i mean?

im not sales...i just find it interesting they can have those numbers with such inferior service in a city like Seattle..they totally suck here. Just goes to show you people pick their service on perception not performance.

You're totally right! How could a NATIONAL carrier have such good numbers across the board when they have spotty coverage in ONE city...I mean, why stop there, why don't we just have all the carriers post their numbers just for Seattle and judge them by that... We could even split it up into North/South/East/West - Which carrier has the best coverage in Seattle...hmmm that's what I'll base my decision on even though I live in Colorado and will never go to Seattle, sounds good to me!!!

Well considering ATT has the most customers and keep adding them by the millions Im going to go out on a limb here and say some signal somewhere is good enough...Ya think?

I know your not in sales, I've read previous posts of yours. That was just an example to try to make a point.

OK, in Seattle they suck? OK, I don't live there, so can't speak for that.

I also agree with you that people pick service based on perception and brand image, not quality. Also on good advertising, I really like the ATT and tmobile commercials. I don't really like the VZ commercials, but they do their job.

I have no love for ATT, but they had a good quarter and i figured that i could come in and post a congratulatory post. You came in and bashed them. Why?

I get that you wonder how they got those numbers, but thats based on your experience in Seattle. ATT works very very well in other places, just like ever...

Sure I could of been positive and typed a simply congrats, but I don't view it the way you do...att is not competition when you don't have any stake in the wireless industry. They are nothing more than an inferior GSM carrier with sub par data, and voice compared to Sprint.

You read the response of AvgJoe, like I should care that att is financially doing better than Sprint..why would I?....when Sprint has PTT and data speeds second to none, and the best voice clarity I'v ever heard compared to all other carriers including verizon!

Really? Just "buy them out"? LOL Who wants to buy their assets and take on their debt load? Who NEEDS their coverage area? No one.

The only thing of value Sprint has are customers. And the competition is ALREADY getting them! ATT does not need Sprint towers, Certainly Veriaon does not. They already share towers!

SO I ask again what is there to buy out. The book value of the stock is around $6 bucks a share........I don't se...

If Brown27's comment about good numbers from ATT is that the network in Seattle sucks, i doubt that they will listen to reason.

You do have to admit that there is sooooo much Sprint bashing that us Sprint people just get tired of it.

And yet AT&T is still ahead by 4+ million customers, nearly four years later. Why don't you just settle down and take being #2 like a champ. AT&T and Verizon lost nothing.

Now let's all point and laugh at Sprint. 😛

If thats what they call a "face kickin" They have no clue what being kicked in the face really is.

Verizon's results were hardly a face kicking..In fact they predicted to be ahead of ATT in customers just a few short years ago.

With all the best this and best that and JD pOwers and Consumer's Reports they still aren't the Toyota of the wireless world. I wonder why?

they are, at&t is GM.

Maybe its the lack of freedom and flexibility, not to mention year old phones they are suddenly getting all giddy about...until they find the phone are the same in name only not in features or GUI as the manufactuter intended....

they have some pretty good phones. better than most that at&t have. and have you seen the new GUI, pretty sweet, looks like the new GUI for the Blackberry 9900. even with the older one, it was no different than what at&t offers. verizon doesn't add a bunch of junk you can't take off, you jus

Actually, if we are going to talk trash based on numbers. AT&T "kicked" verizon's face. Because even though it lost 300k TDMA customers still manage to get more net adds than Q1 of 2007
Q1 07 = 1.2M
Q1 08 = 1.3M
Verizon on the other hand...
Q1 07 = 1.7M
Q1 08 = 1.5M
