Hmm, correction. I think actually you can both ways. The problem arises when current PYP customers want to get an iPhone and want their same number, won't work.

I work for prepaid AT&T and as far as I have been taught you CANNOT transfer a phone number from a regular phone to an iPhone regardless of whether or not it is prepaid or postpaid. You have to start a new activation and do it through iTunes. I'm 99.9% positive on this.

You fail. It's not a matter of new or upgrade, you go into iTunes, you type in your crap. If you have existing service you restart your contract from the day you do it. You really think all those iPhone subscribers gave up their phone numbers? That .01% just kicked your ass.

Yes. What you probably want to do though is switch to postpaid first and then do the iPhone activation. I'm not sure of iTunes capabilities.

I am the one who's trying to get some accurate info,so I am relying on the forum guys to give me some good advice, since i checked with the at&t reps and one says yes you can do it , the other says no, so I guess they are the ones being funny.

You can switch your prepaid to post paid. However, You'll have to make the switch to postpaid (in store or on phone), then activate the iPhone through iTunes. You can keep your existing number this way.

iTunes will not let you add the iPhone to an existing prepaid number.

They successfully transferred my pay as you go to a regualr post paid plan and then i activated the same no on an iphone.
What they told me is that it is very easy to do a GoPhone to post paid to iphone. Harder to do Pay as you go prepaid the same route, ( needs managerial / supervisior authority to veto the block in pay as you go ).

so it is done and i am happy.
