I've been a cingular customer for many years now.
I still have a cdma phone and may be getting a new one soon, that is if Cingular will provide a phone that does what I need and is a decent price. Any ways that's another issue. The reason I'm posting is b/c of the new GSM network. I understand the "no roaming" deal, but this seems to be a bad thing as well. Here's my situation. I have family in south GA and the Savannah area. My phone works now (extended) but still works. If I switch to GSM, will I totally lose my service in areas that I currently roam???? If I breakdown or something and don't have service b/c of the GSM, my phone will pretty much be worthless. I would rather pay a roaming charge (if necessary) than have no service whatsoev...

I guess what I need to know is about GSM.
Is it true that I will have no service whatsoever in certain areas, vs the roaming and extended that I currently get with Cingular (cdma).

I assume you mean TDMA, and not CDMA as cingular doesn't have CDMA..TDMA and GSM run on different networks. In that area, our tdma coverage may cover futher than our current GSM footprint.

I would recommend a GAIT phone which uses both networks, if you don't already have one. We at cignualr do not sell them anymore, you'd probably have to get one on Ebay or something.

Jessie, the store website for the New Orleans market (70115) still shows the S/E T62u for sale. Thay are probably trying to get rid of them as they are advertised for free w/ a 2yr.

There are 2 GAIT phones: SE T62u and Nokia 6340i.

The Nokia is no longer available (from cingular, anyway...try eBay).

The SE T62u is only in a few markets.

Whatever you do, please do not get the t62u, you will hate it, guaranteed. The nokia while leaps and bounds above the t62u is still not the greatest phone. The issue at heart here is that while cingular has more coverage with gsm than it does with tdma, this is not true of other carriers which still use tdma. While you may be able to roam on their towers right now, effectively increasing your coverage area, these companys (just like cingular did) will begin to move rapidly away from tdma and into better technologies. I think there may still be some help on the gsm front in the US, how stupid can some carriers be to not use the de facto world standard?
