AT&T Coming to South Dakota? (Rumor or Truth?)

Ok was the guy at the apple store just kidding me or is AT&T really coming to SD. He said that I could get an iPhone in a few months on AT&T in Sioux Falls, SD because they were going to start marketing and selling here. Anyone know is this really true?

According to the coverage viewer they have coverage in Souix Falls, Aberdeen, Huron, and Rapid City, most of the state still seems to be roaming but those cities appear to be covered.

Yes those areas do have voice and minimal data coverage but as of right now AT&T does not have licensing in SD so they can't start new lines in this area, yet. I am curious to know when they will begin here, we have heard soon and that Long Lines was supposed to be coming in to "pave the way" (or some other BS like that) for AT&T.

Well I think with the iPhone many people will want to get AT&T in this area but I also think that once they try it out and see that it won't work at there lake cabin, or Dell Rapids for that matter they will come back. It will be intresting to see what happens many people will be intrested in a new choice for the area but I just don't see them having coverage needed for SD, to many people don't just stay in Sioux Falls, were too rural here for a GSM carrier.

Yes we are too rural! I am sure that we will probably be seeing ATT in sioux falls, manybe Watertown and brookings, since they are all right along the interstate. Sioux City already has ATT so I am sure its on the way! And I agree with you... when SDakotans realize that their iphone wont work well outside of town, I think they will ditch it! I would't even bother switching. I like verizon's coverage in South Dakota! I have never once not had at least one bar of service except like in a tunnel in the black hills once or twice. 🤣

AT&T currently only has one tower in sioux falls, SD. Long Lines recently came to the city over a year ago now and they have a roaming agreement with AT&T. Also don't forget that Alltel used CDMA as well as GSM technology. I think if AT&T came to SF it would definitly make people think twice about which carrier to go with although their rates aren't any cheaper than VZW. I am excited considering AT&T just finished their 3G network and are already working toward 4G.

AT&Ts 3G network sucks.

Its no where near Verizons, AT&T is no where near finishing there 3G, and Verizon will launch 4G LTE first.

You forget one thing though, if ATT comes to South Dakota, I am sure it would be from buying up the Alltel network that is in South Dakota now and Verizon is choosing to sell. So ATT will pick up the GSM towers and the CDMA towers. All they have to do then is convert the CDMA to GSM towers. Buying up the Alltel network would give ATT a good network in South Dakota as Alltel has over 250 towers in the state and last I heard from a Verizon rep was that Verizon has 150 and an Alltel rep said Verizon has about 130. So I would say Verizon is in that range someplace. In the more rural areas Verizon customers would jump onto Alltel towers. So ATT's coverage would greatly improve in South Dakota. Though one has to wounder if they did buy the ...
