I Am Beginning To Hate Sony Ericsson

By now, I'm sure most of you are aware of the keypad issue on the W580i. For those of you who are not, let me explain. The keys crack. Short and simple, huh? It happens a lot quicker to people who text a lot. I just had a girl come in with one. She has had it for about 2 weeks and all the keys are cracked.

WTF?!?

Before AT&T took over Cellular One, we got an email letting us know about the issue. The warning read as follows:

Sony Ericsson recently announced that select early production W580i handsets may be susceptible to hairline cracks appearing in the keypads. The “cracking” issue is mostly prevalent with customers who are heavy text messengers, but may be seen by any customer who applies frequent excessive pressure...

I'd have to say, I feel your anger and frustration.

Me and my co-workers Push Sony handsets everyday, all day. The young lady I work with has the 810 and so did I and we both agree, it's one of the best phones EVER MADE.

The 580 was a let down because it was suppposed to be followed by the K850, the replacement, or upgrade from the w810i.

Most Sony Fans are upset about the key cracking issue and even more are upset about the 850 taking SOOO LONG to release, (May 2008 it is slated if at all)

Customers love that phone and are very upset when the keys crack, because they actually like the phone...

Something has to be done

It's a shame that up until this point there's still the issue with the keys cracking. I read about this way back in September. I'm a sony ericsson fan as well, but I don't like the w580i. The omission of a flash was a deal breaker for me from the get go. And when I actually put my hands in one, it was a heart breaker (It just doesn't feel as sturdy as prev models)

I used to have this phone. "Used to" is the key phrase.

We've been selling this phone by the truck load at my store and we haven't had a single complaint yet of cracked keys.

Maybe they are being smart and calling customer care instead. Or maybe you are just extremely lucky. Like I said, it happens over time, but heavy texters see it happen sooner. With Cellular One, I had one person come back with this issue. That is one out of 22. I checked my records. With AT&T, I have had nine out of ten return in regards to this issue. And if you call warranty, only one out of four reps seem to know it is covered. Trust me. I've tried.
