Question.....I have a Iphone i bought off this guy. It was unopened and i bought it for about $70. Well I talked to my friend today who works for at&t and he said the only way to hook it up on prepaid is the plan which is 69.99 for 650 mins and then u have to pay an extra $20 for unltd internet. Is this true? I wanted to hook it up but thats a lot of money.

You have bigger problems than the cost of the data plan if you bought an unopened iPhone for $70. Illegitimate phones can be traced by their IMEIs and it sure sounds like the deal you got has a "too-good-to-be-true" catch attached.

And to answer your question, yes that is accurate information.

Thanks for info! I know it sounds too good to be true but it is. I work at a cell store and this older guy came in. He wanted a phone he could tether to his computer and Alltel is a lot faster with EVDO. So i upgraded his phone to a EVDO phone. I expressed interest in his Iphone. He sold it to me for what it cost him to upgrade. He didn't care about the phone. He actually won it at a casino.

Anyway I might just try and sell the phone. Don't think its worth $90/mth especially since I have a dealer line through Alltel already and AT&T kinda sucks around here.

Anytime! You are indeed a lucky individual to have happened across such a deal. And I agree, I had the iPhone for a brief period but decided that the "mandatory" additional charges were simply not worth the cost.

Good luck to you, whatever you may end up doing with the phone!

If the deal you got on that phone was free and clear, good job. That's awesome. As for the rate plan, the iPhone is eligible to be on all of the pyp rate plans, ranging from 29.99 to 69.99/mo. You of course are required to have the unlimited data as well. It can get spendy to be sure, but the iPhone wasn't designed for folks who pay their bill with coins from the couch.

First of all, WOW! You got a new, unopened iPhone for $70! I had to read that a few times to make sure I was seeing correctly. Tell your contact I want one. Also, beware. That sounds like a deal that is too good. It may be stolen or broken.

AT&T does not activate iPhones on prepaid...normally. You'd have to do it through iTunes and it will do a credit check. If you pass, you MUST get a postpaid (contract) plan. However, you can bypass this by entering in a false SSN; something like 999-99-9999. Unless they have fixed this glitch, it will come back offering you a prepaid option.

As for the prepaid plan, you MUST have the $20 data package and you must get the Pick Your Plan. It requires a credit/debit card or a checking account and pa...
