I have never heard anything about Cingular adopting that feature. To my understanding, Nextel (TDMA with iDEN tech.) and Sprint CDMA, are going to be combining... basically putting Nextel's PTT feature on Sprint's PCS (single band) network. I know that motorola is the only current manufacturer of iDEN phones (PTT phones) and just signed an agreement with Sprint-Nextel to produce iDEN CDMA phones instead of iDEN TDMA phones.

Again, I have not heard anything about Cingular using this feature, and I know Cingular is planning to put alot of their money into their new UMTS network, which should be upgraded and implimented in 2006.

Does anyone have more information about UMTS network? I heard it is currently being used as the Japanese standard technology. Is this true? Are what are the benifits and advantages of using UMTS technology?

Cingualr is definately working on a Push to Talk feature. It was supposed to be implemented this summer but was delayed.

Japan was the first to implement on a large scale. The advantages are greater data speeds and call quality. And the ability to use data and voice at the same time. Also, streaming video.

From what i heard, PTT is being tested in select markets as you read. The release of it should be in the 4th quarter of 2005. (at last check). I recently recieved an email from my district manager saying that PTT traings from Cingular Reps should be up very soon. I have a bad feeling that PTT is going to fail with Cingular just like it did with Verizon. The only reason that PTT worked so well with Nextel is because IT'S USABLE ON EVERY STINKIN PHONE. If Cingular only has a couple phones that are PTT capable it will never take off as planned

Cingular already offers a few phones that are PTT capable and simply are in need of a software upgrade to take advantage of the future PTT service. Cingular also has quite a few phones slated for future release that are PTT capable and they will of course be releasing a few phones that will be the flagship phones for their PTT launch.

All phones released after the launch of PTT service could very well be PTT capable. Either way, there are enough Cingular PTT capable phones currently in use that will allow for their PTT to take off.

Also, you must understand the business side of this. Businesses will be buying new phones and accounts with Cingular for the ability to use the PTT for their special needs and the advantage of Cingular's ...

I already talked about PTT. Cingular will launch PTT after finally agreeing on a format. That was the reason PTT did not launch in 10/04. Training for Cingular customer service and sales teams are scheduled for the end of August.

Okay? I knew all that. I was explaining to Mr. Curto why Cingular's PTT won't be a flop. He was thinking that the lack of PTT phones (which there is no lack of) would be the demise of Cingular's PTT.

That's what we were told this past Thursday during a training class. In fact, our trainer had just gotten back from Dallas in which he attended the PTT training. He mentioned the LG 7200 slider phone as being on the PTT dvice list. He said there was going to be a Nokia device, but he either didn't know, or couldn't remember the model #.

He mentioned that as of now, PTT will be rolled out 9/1/05 for business customers and then 9/15/05 for consumers.

It's going to be a $9.99 add-on for unlimited PTT.

Please keep in mind, that the roll out date can change at any time, as can the equipment. I am just reporting the information that was given to us last week. =)

AWS had PTT planned for a long while too. Their supposed release date was 2Q 2004. My guess is that it got pushed back due the merger.

Learned a couple weeks ago in a data training class that PTT is being released on Sept 1. That is from the OK/ARK Data Specialist. So I would think that is a pretty good source.
