SIM card vs. phone software

hypothetically if I bought an unlocked device, such as a Blackberry 7100T which is made for T-Mobile, would the phone be able to connect to the internet? Is the mini-browser program part of the phone, or does the SIM card tell the phone how the browser connects? I would expect that I could make calls, and receive SMS messages, but as for internet, and possibly voice mail functions, I am not sure.
Also, is this phone on the horizon for Cingular - I greatly prefer the smaller footpritn to the 7290. Thanks.

Yes, I believe that a 7100g is in the works for Cingular. I have heard this from more than one source now.

I don't believe T-MObile Blackberry's include a web browser as that service (web browsing) is not supported by them. What features or qualities of this phone do you find so attractive? I have heard from many Blackberry customers that are so used to the traditional Blackberry form they are very turned off by the new more phone-like style of the 7100t. But then again, these are probably the same customers that would not let go of their first AMPS Star-Tac either.

Thanks for the good info. Regarding the 7100, I primarily like the more phone-like dimensions as opposed to the "square" 7290. I do not currently own a Blackberry, but have considered turning in my 2 week old Motorola v551 in favor of the 7290. I will probably just wait for a Cingular version of the 7100. Thanks for input.
