My experience with Cingular so far (please tell me they don't suck)!

I ordered a motorola phone (free with 2yr. activation) online from cingular and requested they port my number from TMobile. I checked with cingular on the phone before I did this and they said they don't actually port the number until you have the phone, that way you don't lose service at all. Anyway one week later I call to check the order status - all I basically did was create an order online. Nothing was done. So here we go....they do a credit check (supposed to be done already), put the number in for porting and tell me to call a number to check in 1 hr. I call the number in an hour and notice my tmobile phone now has no service (so much for waiting til you have the phone to port). This person can't even tell me if the phone is set to b...

Well hopefully it's settled now...I think the phone will come in tomorrow. It's just ridiculous that I had to stay on them to actually GET service. Anway I'm also going to try to take the sim out of the motorola v180 and put it in my motorola v300....hope it works..

If you have had coverage problems in the past, then have you called T-Mobile to alert them of such issues? They will take all the information on a trouble ticket and have their engineers clear it up if their should legitimately be an issue of sorts.

I think I responded to another post of yours in the T-Mobile forum. You said you have motorola phones? I'm almost certain a major part of your problem is going to lay in the phone. I switched from a Motorola to a samsung and all the sudden I started getting signal/coverage in places I was not able to before...like in my house. I've used my T-Mobile casually in New Orleans before such as the airport, the route to and from, the quarter, and garden district. H...

And he's right! For a company of the size and stature that "The New Cingular" brings to the table, if their is still this type of "high on retard pills" b.s. going on then you really have a serious problem.

The others are right, doing anything by mail is problematic. Of course, Cingular now does all their warranty exchanges by mail, and I went through a 3-day nightmare with that. You can go to a store, but if it's like where I live, you'll wait an hour to see a rep. These are the reasons I'm no longer with CingT&T. Good luck!

The Sim may or may not be the issue. But on the end of the phone, Moto v.300 is not a good phone man. I have a colleague in the DFW metro suffering through with that phone along with another friend in Miami, FL who recently upgraded to a Moto v.180. I strongly suggest going back to T-Mo and u/g'ing your phone. Let me know what the outcome of this situation turns out to be.

well at least we know you have a nation plan and won't have roaming regardless of where you go inside the uninted states.

just to make sure you know since it is a common issue. CANADA AND MEXICO are not part of your plan and you will roam internationally when you are in those areas.

you will have a large first bill.

it will have a prorated charge for the first few days of service and a full charge for your month in advance service charge as well as an activation fee.

depending on when your billing cycle starts and ends it will determine the actual charge.

i.e. if your billing cycle ends on the 15th of every month and you signed up service on the 10th then you will have 5 days of charges which is $39.99/30 = $1.33 x 5 = 6.6...

I also live in New Orleans, LA and last week I ported my number from T-Mobile to Cingular. T-Mobile, although that had good customer service, had TERRIBLE coverage!! The phones they offered were not really that impressive. I purchased a Motorola V3 RAZR online and everything has been smooth sailing since. Although hold times are longer, I am very impressed with Cingular's customer service. They have been very friendly and helpful. The phone I got is great and so is the coverage. I definitely recommend switching to Cingular. Good Luck.
