Not sure, I know most samsungs can, but the process is really tricky.

I remember how to on the old LG cu500 but not sure if its the same on the LG trax which is its predecessor.

Are you buying a new phone and want to use 3g occasionaly or not at all? In the case just buy a non 3g phone.

there are not any ATT phones in the "best" catergory that arent 3G.

its UNpossible to get a phone with comparible features for ATT that is not 3G, unless you get an unlocked phone, and that's paying out the butt.

Best for what, or for who?

If all someone wants is a phone with a good camera, battery life, and reception, they are better off with a non 3g phone.

Best is quite the ambiguous term.

Chainsaw, I agree with you that you don't need 3g if all you want is a basic phone & good battery life.

Unfortunately I'm in Raleigh, NC and my reception sucks most of the time. Look at 27612 zip code on the coverage map (http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer/B 2B.html) and you'll see many 'moderate' coverage areas.

CS & Tech Supt all tell me I need a 3g phone for better reception. I don't use the Internet, don't download games/ringtones, and I don't text message. I just returned the Moto V3XX. It's reception was better than my non-3g phone, but still not good enough to stay with AT&T. I'm about to try the Nokia N75 and if it doesn't work, then I'm switching to Verizon. :-(

Any suggestions?

If reception is your problem, a 3G phone is not likely to fix it. Primarily, 3G is data packet transfer... right now at least. If you want the best call clarity and best reception then you'll definitely want either a Nokia or a Sony Ericson. Now the Nokia 6555 is 3G and does provide excellent reception. The Sony Ericson 580i is fantastic as well, and not 3G... so you get a great battery life there. If cost is a facotr, you can still find the SE 300i at a lot of places for a nice price.

Thanks chainsaw. I have an LGCU515 and live in the 75042 area. They tell me I should be getting 5 bars and I get nothing most of the time. Sometimes 1 or 2 bars, but most of the tiame nothing. I need the 3g for my hearing aids because it is WCDMA and it is very good for heaing aids.It seems that at&t will not get M4 rated hearing aid compatible handsets and I still get a little buzzing with the M3, which I had. Thank you for your reply, Paul

erm.. I was under the impression that if you wanted it locked to edge that means you didnt want to use the WCDMA part of the phone.

If I am understanding, you want to get a WCDMA phone so you dont have that interference in your hearing aid cause by GSM, so what does edge have to do with anything here?

I already have a 3g p;hone. I can't afford to buy another one. It gets no signal at my house on 3g. I am still under contract. Does that answer you question? When it's in edge mode, I get a few bars. THATS WHY.!!!!!!!!!! Thanks

Depending on where you live, 3g may not even be available. is there something with the 3g you dont like? 3g is going to give you faster internet, video sharing..etc...
