Question for AT&T reps or guru

I have had AT&T for a year now and I have he media max 200 on my moto v3xx. My friend is selling his unlocked iphone which he uses on t-mobile. I put my AT&T sim in the iphone and if seems to work fine. Internet and voice. The only problem is that I don’t want to change my data plan because I am not going to use the iphone all the time, just on weekends and stuff. Is AT&T going to have a problem with this? Do I have to change my plan to iphone or just leave it alone like it is? Please help if you know the answer. Thanks

& That's why The I-Phone is not that Fun of a Device....

I believe you can keep the same feature bundle, you just have to activate the I-Phone on I-Tunes...

Not sure though, they will not allow our company to sell the I-phone....

the iphone plan is the max200 plan with a diffrent name. i think when you activate the iphone it will make you switch it to the iphone plan but it will still work when you put the chip in the v3xx . same plan same price diffrent name.since you are not registering the i phone i THINK you will be fine as you are.

You are right it will work just fine without changing to the iphone plan. I think there are some features that it won't allow you to use like visual voicemail unless you activate the iphone plan through itunes.

Also, you could just activate it through itunes which allows you to get firmware updates. It will make you renew your contrac though.

n95 is uber sweet, and guess what folks, it actually has a keypad. WTF is with people wanting touch screens these days, they are good if you are trying to drag and drop and copy and paste but for everthing else a button is the better option. F touch screens!

Thanks guys. Visual voicemail does not work but everything else works. I don't think i want to go through itunes because i only have one year left on my contract. So that I understand right, at&t should not have a problem with me using the iphone with the media max 200 plan right? btw..the V3xx is the best phone out there. I really like it.

Well they don't know, but yes, they would have a problem with it. All iPhone customers are supposed to have an iphone plan with a new 2 year contract. I don't think at&t would ultimately care, but apple would because they aren't getting their cut of the monthly dataplan.

the V8 totally rocked the V3XX.

double the battery life, external touch controls, better hinge...the list goes on.

Too bad you dont have t-mo. Its mucho dinero without a contract.

You don't understand right...

You can "cheat" the system and use the plan you have with the agreement you have if it works ok. That does not mean AT&T is "ok" with it. If, one day, you get a bill with a bunch of pay per use data charges you will have little or no recourse to get the charges reduced or eliminated.

Do you understand?

How am i cheating? I am still paying 20 bucks a month to at&t. Its not like i am getting anything for free. I just don't want to use the iphone everyday because I will damage it during work. Has anybody been chared extra for switching phones? When my buddy got his iphone and called tmobile to add data, they told him it uses the same plan as the t-zones which is 5.99 and they gave him the settings and told him to go have fun with his his iphone. I am paying 20 to here and you are saying they will have a problem? does not make any sense.

Moe777: You'll be fine. The only people that have a problem with what you're doing is team Cupertino, and that is because they're not getting their cut of the data revenue. Att could probably care less. I can't speak on their behalf, but as an agent, I would say to not worry about it because the iphone data is the same package as the media max 200, less visual voicemail (which is a lame feature anyway).

Media Max 200 is unlimited data and 200 messages (text, video, picture, and instant messages)... The only pay per use charges you would incur would be if you went over your messages.

Don't let the haters spook you out of trying to use the phone. If it works, more power to you! They're just mad/jealous that you're using the iphone...

Apple, I would presume. They get a cut from AT&T for the iPhone data plans.

I fully understand. You asked to confirm if it was ok and it is not "ok". AT&T has a specific iPhone plan and in their terms and conditions state you MUST be on said plan. Regardless of whether or not it works as it is now does not matter.

If you don't get caught, good for you. If you do don't be upset. You were warned.
