Migration question Blue to Orange...

I am considering migrating to get a better rate plan in addition to a phone with more features. I currently have a Motorola v60 and am looking at Moto v551 or Razr. I have been happy with the coverage/reception with AWS, although it is fairly expensive (650 one rate minutes, 79.95/mo, no free nights/weekends or MTM, and per message text messages). With the Cingular plans offered here, I can get comparable minutes, plus free nights/weekends, free MTM, and MEdia bundle which includes 1000 text messages, unlimited bandwidth for phone web browsing, all for $10 less than what I am paying now.

I am a little concerned about switching to the Cingular GSM network, just b/c I have no experience with the coverage/reception here in NW Louisiana (S...

That I couldn't switch back to Blue if I canceled Orange in the case that I was not satisfied with coverage reception.

He further asserted that coverage/reception would not be an issue, and that since GSM was newer technology, it would provide "better" coverage, and that I would have coverage with the new network anywhere I has coverage with the old network. If this is indeed true, then I guess my original question would be rendered moot.

From what I understand I believe you should be able to reverse migrate from the Cingular GSM to the AT&T TDMA. However I would talk to an AT&T TDMA Rep (800-888-7600 or 611 from your cell phone) about that to be 110% certain.

But you shouldn't have any worries with Cingular. Naturally as with all wireless service providers the coverage isn't infallible - it's all Radio Frequency technology so any buildings and such may cause lower reception. But with the Cingular phones you get the 64K Smart Chip SIM card that provides a faster voice connection (not data) to cell towers and gives you more memory. It also registers both the AT&T and Cingular networks as one network. So no seeing the AT&T/Cingular Alpha Tags on your phone.

I'd recommen...

Idea.

You can migrate to a Cingular GAIT plan where you get a phone that uses both GSM and TDMA. You'd still be able to use your phone in the current TDMA only areas AND you would be able to take advantage of the newer GSM technology.

Well, I can say this Knowing this is not Crap!!, if Blue customers migrate do it properly(Migration) and follow those instructions correctly, they WILL notice Big Improvements. The problems always been it takes 24 hours to get the phone fully programmed with ALL the infor like The IRDB, local network codes, and other programs but if people start using the right away then that stuff never downloads and the reception improvements are not noticed or utilized.

If people let their phones activate properly they will be better off.And For God's sakes Turn off your phones at least 1 tine per week.We are always sending programing to you with Reception but like a computer program you download on your computer and install that software won't take e...

reception has greatly improved along the 49 corridor on south it used to not work at all from alec south to oppelousas.

however looks like the only real issues you will have are going to be around toledo bend and east to manny as well as the outskirts of natchez.

as far as south louisiana, you are covered like a jimmy cap. lake charles, lafayette, B.R., NOLA... basically the 1-10 and I-12 corridors are good to go.
west of shreveport you are good but north into arkansas you gonn have no service.

one thing about the coverage. with the nation plans as long as you have coverage you wont be charged roaming. i.e. you can use tmobile voicestream or whatever and whoever has GSM coverage and not get roaming charges.

im using cingular ...

I-49 corridor was one of my main concerns, and one of the areas where I really need service. In-laws live in New Orleans, and Thibodaux and we also travel to BR quite a bit. ATTWS has always given me good service in these areas. Thanks for reply.

thibodaux will have medium coverage which may give you problems inside a home like one or two bars but outside and in cars you will be good.
