Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I currently have a family share w/ 3000 minutes and an unlimited data package for one line on VZ. I have had it with their lousy equipment and so tired of their "but we have the best network" BS. There are some exciting phones coming to AT&T in '08 and I want to be able to use those.

Anyway here is where the confusion comes in....one of my lines is on a month to month so that one can be ported, one is out of contract on 12/19/07, one 1/12/08 and the last one not until 6/6/08. My billing cycle is through the 7th of every month.

If I can I want to avoid paying double for any of the lines and hopefully get the first 2 over to AT&T with 3 new phones for Christmas. (I realize that the one that is...

No contract extensions or fees to worry about, the only way to get the discount is sign a contract, when you port, you get the phone.

That's awesome! Now more than ever is the best time to ditch Vz. I'm in telesales so I can tell you that there's a lot of plp, just like you who port over because they want better phones.
I think you can (CSR's correct me if I'm wrong) port that third line over just don't activate it until it's save to port it out of Vz. You sound like you're desperate to get out of there. LOL Unlike Vz, we don't ask you to renew your contract if you wish to make any changes to your plan. You can add or remove lines from your FT plan without being penalized for it. We don't penalize our customers.
I'd say, port all three lines, active the two and then whenever the contract expires on the third line still on Vz, active it on AT&T. Be honest with your sale...

I have to agree with the last few sentences especially. Service for me at least on AT&T is better here in Chicago than verizon was. Not to mention the phone selection here on AT&T is worlds better. Also I'm typing this all from my iPhone via a wifi connection which is incredible!!!! I have to say I was skeptic to leave verizon due to all the brainwashing I heard about the network. When I finally took the chance and left verizon I can tell you honestly I'm not looking back! Non crippled phones here way better selection and fantastic service!!!!!

Thanks for your reply. I am also in the Chicago area and am confident about AT&T service but it is nice to hear it from another convert.
Been with VZ for so long and you are right they do try to brainwash about their network Their new phones are a joke, huge chunky voyager and BBpearl which has been out for over a year now with other carriers. I am thinking iPhone Business Edition when it comes out or maybe one of the new BB 9000 series. Thanks again

heh, so because VZW is coming out with more phones and is loosening policies that phone geeks complained about, that makes it the "best time to ditch" them?

Rather amusing because many of the people that port from AT&T to VZW say the same thing. To each his own, I guess.

No, now more than ever it is the best time to ditch Vz. Not because they are 'whoring out' their network, because that still remains to be seen. (Just like their not-so-unlimited) unlimited EVDO.
Now, more than ever before it's the best time to ditch them, because there's barely any difference in coverage. And this comes from people I talk to on a daily basis. I work in the telesales dept and they come to me to start new service and to port in because they WANT AT&T! I'm gonna tell you something. More than a year ago the reasons were: 'I want Rollover minutes', 'I want this phone', 'most of my friends have AT&T and I want to use M2M'. But now, more than ever before they want us for our coverage, and trusty network. So, I was telling her th...

Slow down there bud, you are misinforming the customer on many levels.

Porting is activating, you port it, Verizon knows your canceling it. Verizon knows your canceling, you get the $175 ETF.

You CANNOT remove lines from your FT without being penalized unless your doing a transfer of service which was not metioned anywhere in the origional post. You remove one, you get the ETF.

Thanks.

I am going to the store today. I want to port one line today, sign a contract for 700 minutes family share and buy 3 phones. I will port the 2nd # on 12/19, the 3rd # in Jan. and finally the 4th in June. The phones we want are on sale through Christmas and they are early presents. Can I buy all 3 phones at a discount today while I am only porting 2 lines this month?

'Porting is activating' in the stores. It's well known that a port-in is not complete until the shoe is activated on the AT&T side. Hence, my recommendation of doing it over the shoe or internet. If you go online and click on 'bring your number to AT&T' you can port your number online.
When I said that you don't get penalized by removing lines from a FT plan. I meant by removing it from the FT status to a individual status. It was my fault for not making that clear.

Thanks.

What I am thinking is going into a store today, signing a contract for a family share for 2 of the lines but buying 3 phones. Then I will have the #s ported when the contracts expire on VZ. Can I do that? Will they sell me the phones even though I am only activating one of the lines immediately, the next on 12/19. the 3rd in Jan. and finally the 4th in June?

You can buy phones anytime you want, you just won't get the two year discount on them like you would when you sign a contract for it. You can port the first number over and add the other lines when you're ready to do so. Besides by the time the last contract expires they might come out with even better phones then the already impressive lineup. I know you want to make them Christmas presents but you can at least do so with two of them.

This is how you should do it- Port the first number now. Wait until 12/19 to port the second. Then your options are up to you. You can port anyway with the third number to get the discount on that phone and still have it for Christmas. The discount you get is around the price of the ETF from Verizon anyway...

You can only get the discounted price on the phones if you activate them the day you get them. We can, however, future date an activation for up to 30 days from today's date which means ur number won't leave verizon till the date you want it and you can still take the phone with you. Another thing we do for our customers a lot is to activate the phone with a new number. Then, when your VZ contract is up port that line in. It will mean paying double for a lil while, but it's really the only way to get the discount on the phones.

Thanks.

I bought 2 phones, activated both, ported one # over and they will port the 2nd # on 12/19. As far as the 3rd # that isn't up on VZ until 1/12/08. Can I buy the a737 at a discount when I add the 3rd line?

I also have to comment how helpful the sales guy was and gave us a nice deal on the phones, waived activation, etc.

Now we're halfway there!!
