AT&T coverage on the Washington DC Metro rail

I live in the Washington DC area and I keep hearing rumors that AT&T will soon have coverage on the DC Metro rail (underground subway) but it never happens. As of now Verizon and Sprint (roams on Verizon's network) are the only ones that get coverage. What the hold up????

They said they'd put a tower in Springfield VA too, but it still hasn't happened. I guess that's why they try not to tell people things too far ahead. If they did the metro rail, that'd be SWEET.

In this area that is the best thing about Verizon. I would love for AT&T to have coverage area.

When these companies like AT&T try to put antennas on the Metro Rail and in tunnels, there are many fights between the citi, state, and the carriers. That makes lot of delays and it looks like AT&T is suffering with those delays.

In addition, towers (in general) take a lot of time to plan to turn it on the network.

It actually was not a delay but a disagreement about money. Bell Atlantic was paid to do the communications system for Metro when it was built and that is why verizon can use the phones down there. The contract said that in exchange for a really cheap price of the system build out, Metro agreed to let a percentage of the spectrum to be used by the general public. The contract...

If it was a disagreement with money then yes, it was a delay and I mentioned there are many fights with the carrier and the other parties. Those are the main causes of actually putting a tower up either on the ground and/or a metro, or subway services.

Basically what we've been told is they are working on enhancing, not expanding. So if you have a dead spot that ad hopes of a tower, chances are you were taken off the list. We had three cell sites planned to be finished next month, nixed.

I would be happy if I didn't drop calls on the beltway. Making a call in the Metro is beyond my wildest dreams for ATT.

Verizon has a contract with Metro. Metro keeps on talking about opening it up to other carriers, but hasn't done it yet.
