picking your plan

I was talking to customer service on the phone and asked about the pick your plan accounts. I want to try out the GSM service before upgrading my TDMA account. The rep told me that I would spend less money and avoid activation fees if instead I upgraded to a GSM contract account and canceled before 30 days. I get a discount from my job of 15% using the premier site. He also stated that with a post paid account I can add or delete extras like messaging and media net each month as needed without a contract extension. I don't recall seeing an activation fee for the pick your plan account on the AT&T website.
Is there any truth to his claims?
Thanks

Agents charge a $25 fee, not sure about online. But you can't really judge GSM by PYP, it doesn't have the same coverage as a postpaid plan. I think what he meant is if you go TDMA > GSM they waive your upgrade fee. But if you go TDMA > PYP > GSM you probably have an activation fee from PYP to GSM.

PYP is closer to our coverage than the Pay as you Go plans.

If you convert the Prepaid account to a postpaid account there will be an activation fee incurred at that time. Just pointing that out because I haven't seen anyone bring it up yet.

Actually, My plan is to start a PYP account as a seperate account and phone number without canceling my TDMA account. Then, if I like the coverage and service I can simply cancel the PYP and upgrade my TDMA to GSM the usual way. I would probably go through the process without telling them I am an existing TDMA customer if neccesary 😉 . Also, is it possible for post-paid customers to switch extras like medianet and messaging on and off each month.
Thanks again.

yes it is possable to do that i think the rep you spoke to was trying to save you some money by not having to pay for 2 plans for a month and the cost of the phone not to mention your time.you HAVE to switch off tdma real soon anyway so if you dont like it just change it to whatever your plan B is.
