Preferred nation plan

I currently have the nation 400 plan with rollover and my dad has the old nation 250 plan. I'm sort of frustrated that there is no family talk plan for the nation plans. I am thinking about moving to the preferred nation plan so that we can go to a family talk plan so we pay less money. Does anyone have any complaints with the preferred nation plans? I've checked the coverage maps and it seems to be pretty much everywhere we go in Louisiana and Texas, but is there something else that I should know? I talked to Cingular customer service and they told me that the phone must say Cingular and NOT Cingular Extend, however, the map shows areas that I normally go into that would be Cingular Extend. Can someone explain this to me? Any complai...

The pref. nat plan has roaming charges, where as the "old" nation plans you are on do not.

As far as the Cingular Extend thing goes, sometimes it says "extend" and you arent actually roaming. the best way to know is to call 611 from the phone and see who it says "welcome" to (tmobile, att, etc.) if it says Cingular, you are fine.

as a reccomendation, i would wait til february to change plans...we are going to be coming out with new plans, but i dont have any details on what they will include, only that i know there are supposed to be no roaming plans available again.

I sure hope they come out with a Nation familytalk. I looked at the map and the preferred nation roaming area really cuts it close to Austin, where I have a cousin that I'm planning to go visit soon. I think I will wait to see what they come out with.

I'm Central Texas, and if you look at the Preferred nation plan it actually covers Austin really quite well, not when you about 30 miles out of outer lying area East or West of the City then you may have problem.....

Where in Lousiana and Texas Do you go? We are suppose to get new rate plans in February, however, all that i know that's coming out is update GSM rate plans. Have you looked into GSM rate plans? Because it pretty much covers all of the texas & louisiana areas, and if you get a nation family plan you don't have to worry about roaming, there are just some places that you don't get service. However, it does depend on where you are going?

Unfortunately we do not have GSM where I live, so the GSM national family plan is not even available to my area. I spoke with Cingular customer service and they told me that GSM isn't even planned for rollout until November 2004, so it will be quite a while. I was advised to wait until February because they are coming out with new plans so I guess I will just wait and see what they will have available.

Thanks

I live in Southwest Louisiana in a small town about 30 miles north-northwest of Lake Charles. One of my biggest fears of the Preferred nation plan is that even in what is considered the Cingular area I still get Cingular Extend from time to time inside my home. If I place my phone in certain places of the house it will switch to Cingular Extend (Centennial Wireless usually). If someone were to call me I would have no idea if it were on Cingular or Cingular Extend because the phone doesn't tell you while it is ringing.

if you are even near lake charles you shouldn't have had a problem. Because i grew up East TExas and when traveling to Beaumont, which used Centennial Wireless, it would read off the Lake Charles towers for some reason, because i could always see it on my bill. However, i was never charged for it. You might want to call Cingular and see if you actually getting charged for it. Some custoemrs says Cingular Extend in some places and are never charged for it.

just a suggestion

Well at this point I think I will just wait until the new plans come out. If they have a GAIT nation family plan or something similar I will probaby switch to that. I have two phones on my bill and neither one of us come close to using the minutes we pay for. I've had like 400 minutes rollover in the last three months so it's just a waste.
