apple upset

chainmail311

Sep 5, 2007, 7:42 PM
I wonder if AT&T knew beforehand that apple would release a phoneless iphone/ipod two months after initial iPhone release? And drop the price by $200 bucks.

People who just bought an iPhone had the "luxary" of paying $200 dollars to have it early. That's a bit of cash.

Anyone else get the feeling that Apple pulls these upsets just to go down in future marketing textbooks?

Apple's marketing department is the only reason that they're successful with most of their products.

I'll tell you one thing, at least at store level we knew absolutely NOTHING about it until people started coming in for money back.

Wait, customers actually came back to the store asking for a refund? Lets hope they were at least within the 15 day return period.

What big launch hasn't done this? Anyone remember the original V3 being $500 on a 2 year contract? I sure do.

The V3 was 500 on a 2 yr.... and 1 month later it still was 500....

This is a tad redicilious.... luckly I was within the 14day period and got a 200 refund. I feel for those of you who didn't.

If the iPhone dropped 200 a year from now I could understand.... just goes to show you how much money they are making per iPhone if they can drop the price $200 and still make money...

Great statement! Their "marketing department!" Brilliant! You really have ZERO business acumen. Right, it has nothing to do with their rapidly improving market share. It has NOTHING to do with the simplicity and ease of use of their products.

The problem with people who hate apple is that they don't realize that their is real and true competition to the pc dominance. Thats ok though, its all "marketing"

The iPod was not the first nor the best mp3 player when it came out. It still isn't. So why is it so successful? Because they marketed it correctly. Simple as that.

I hate Apple, but I think I hate Microsoft more. My biggest problem with Apple is that their products are usually overpriced for what you get. If you need any sort of support, you have to get overpriced Apple support. I was trying to upgrade my friend's Mac laptop, and they wanted $150 for RAM when I could get the same amount of RAM for $30 on my desktop. Apple blows.

apple doesnt blow...you get what you pay for. If you want the best than you pay a little more. I've had my $1300 Power book for more than 3.5 years no and the thing is a tank! I will never own a PC again, and microsoft is a complete joke. Their lack of innovation and ease of use is just flat out ridiculous.

If you dont wanna pay for apple service, then get an extended warranty. And don't act like its not expensive to get PC's repaired!

Apple does have its flaws, but there are way more chinks in microsoft's armor.

Thats because nobody cares enough about apple to find the "chinks" in its armor. Trust me, they are there. its just apple users are so few and far between, thatm no hacker cares to waste their time with apple, except for the i-tards that hacked the i-phone. which is no more than a glorified i-pod.

No one cares? Lol...there was a line of more than 300 people when the apple store opened in my town of Madison, Wi. Apple vs. PC is like Foreign cars vs American cars. More people have American cars, but does that make them better? Or does that mean that people don't care about foreign cars? NO!

People care, and apples market share gets stronger ever year. Ask anyone who has made the switch and see what they say, trust me, I'm sure they will be happy with their decision.

i fought buying an iPod forever, but I finally gave in, and it was and still is totally and completely worth every penny. I haven't had a problem with it that I couldn't fix, and those are few and far between.

iPods ARE the best MP3 devices out there. Name a better one. I think the Nano is the greatest mp3 device ever made. (2nd generation).

If they're not the greatest, and the most innovative, why does the market follow apple's every move!?

Don't hate. I have a PC, and I love working on it, because I know how to instinctivly. Someday I will able to afford a Mac. (I'm in filmediting and graphic design.)

Glad to hear your enjoying your ipod! They are great devices and apple truly leads the market in innovation and making great reliable products...

If you are in film editing and graphic design you need to get a Mac...NOW...trust me, its worth every penny, and will make your life a whole lot easier.

I'm pretty sick of using Vegas, actually. I found a trick that it can't do that's really simple. It can't reverse footage. Like, if I'm left handed, it looks right handed.

Apple has had well over 30 years to catch up to the PC market. They are still where they were. A VERY small segment of the market.

In fact Apple finally had to marry with Intel to draw more PC users. It's still not happening. Without the iPod Apple is still...Apple 1980.

The myth video/photo and music production is better on a MAC has long been destroyed.

PCs are faster have better video and you don't have to rebuy software every time the operating system is upgraded. Linux runs beautifully on the Intel platform.

Those who loaded up with AAC music are screwed when they want to transfer it. Not so with MP3 EVERTHING reads MP3s. The smart iPod users are loaded with MP3s.

Not quite. Apple's marketing IS good, but the iPod's success was also due to having a great UI (the clickwheel) and great design (their iPods inspire the classic 'consumer lust' response- you just gotta have 'em).

The thing that really amazes me is that Apple's success has been based on some pretty obvious things (ease of use, great design), yet no one seems to be able to copy them effectively, not even Microsoft with its unmatched resources.

'tis weird. 😕

the zune was prolly the closest thing to an ipod...but i think its almost too late, apple has such a strong hold on the mp3 market its ridiculous.

The other reason why apple has such a stronghold on the market is itunes. With the crack down stealing mp3s, itunes has become a valuable source for music and mp3s.

Apple has just done a great job overall, and with the new ipod touch and ipod classic they are on their way to many more years of dominance.

yeah, but DRM doesn't mean that you can't sell music, its just means that some of the restrictive nuances that used to be on your MP3, will no longer be there.

The actual selling of mp3's should remain almost the same

(I hope we're on the same page here)

People who just bought an iPhone will have the "Luxury" of getting a $200 refund if they bought their iPhone in the 14 days prior to the announcement. Those who paid full price since the launch will get a $100 back in credit. I think that's a good deal and I would be happy if any manufacturer did that for that long of a period of time.

The people I have to chuckle at are those who bought on eBay and can't get the credit from Apple. Or those who bid on iPhones on Tuesday for auctions that ended Wendesday when the new pricing was released. Sucks to be them!

Any iPhone owners out there might also consider going through their credit card company. Many Visa/MC have a price guarantee that will refund a price change within 30 days. Who knows...maybe you could even double dip!
