Blue Service on an Orange phone?

I live in Lousiana. Before leaving for vacation to NJ, i stopped by a Company owned store to make sure that v400 would work in New Jersey where i was going. They told me that Cingular didn't have service there, but ATT did. I have a 32k sim card, not a 64k, but they told me it didn't matter, my phone would work because the v400 works on 1800mhz, and thats what ATT uses in NJ.

Well, i dont have service. How do i get my v400 to start picking up ATT towers?

Thanks!

Run a manual search under network settings and choose ATTWS to overide your phone's auto setting to Cingular. That should do it, and dont worry about roaming.

The only option under network settings is to change it to 1800, which i did. Still no service. I sometimes have ONE bar under 850/1900....but never anything under 900/1800. Is there something else i should be doing?

Thanks!

900/1800 is not used in the US, 900/1800 is only used outside the US such as Eupope and parts of Asia. Only 800/850/1900 is used in the United States.

make sure your phone is using 850/1900 and it will do it by itself, cingular does not allow you to run a manual network selection on most of their phones

I'm having the same exact problem with the same exact phone... Funny thing is I put my old ATT sim card in it (before they deactivated it) and I got full service. I think it's the sim cards. I got a 64k one, so no one waste your time telling me to get one of those.

your new sim is probably locking onto cingulars towers first. If the sim is 64K but your phone does not support ENS then it acts just like a 32K sim. That said, your old at&t sim is picking up a stronger (closer) at&t tower, and your new cingular sim picks up a weaker cingular tower.

if you can, manually select the network you want to use. If may be deep in the menu somewhere. Mine is somewhere like Initial Setup or something like that. One poster mentioned that Cingular doesn't allow this for most of their phones but I'm not so sure. They may even be able to program the preference into the sim card so it makes AT&T towers preferred. Any reps/techs here know if this is a possibility? To change preference on the sim that is.
