In2wireless,

Do keep me posted on this. I had the same issue, although my charge was only an extra $60 or so. It was after I added the unlimited Text/MMS/Im plan. I was told by a CSR that even tho MMS and IMs use "data" that they do not go against any data package, that it is included...they only thing is that you have to have at least Pay per use data on your phone so that you are provisioned to send/recieve MMS or I'ms. So thats what I did. And I myself had several KB charges for data exchanges..........and I DID NOT ONCE USED MEDIA NET!!!!!! I called customer service when I got my bill and they instructed me that the rep who added my unlimited text/pic/im plan misinfomred me.....that "Indeed if you use I'ms or send MMS messages you are...

I dont know the official answer to this one, even though I am a sales manager for an agent. I was under the impression that IM's counted as messages in the unlimited package, and were never charged data usage. As a customer of AT&T, I can tell you that I have used IM's extensively on my unlimited messaging package for several months and have not been charged data for it. I do not have a data package, just pay per use. I do get some small data charges, but that's mostly because about 3-4 times a week I accidentally hit the data button on my phone and get charged for it. But we're talking usually less than $2 a month in pay per use data. My belief is the rep who said that IMs get charged data on pay per use is mistaken.

I would appreciate it if someone would clear this up. I'm gonna be getting the unlimited messaging plan soon - and with 5 lines, I don't want any surprises!

I was under the impression that the unlimited messaging plan includes text, picture, video, and IM messaging.

I asked my RAR weeks ago after one of my customers had the same problem. He was under the impression that the data was being waved for the unlimited text plans. I think that the billing system is not provisioned right to deal with the new plans. Remember, they did just spring them on us instead of giving us advanced notice.
They should waive the fees cause it says on the brochure that IM, Text, and Pics are free with no other fees.

I just got my most recent bill......$6.88 in data charges.........again I'm so freakin lost. The rep insisted that the only "unlimited" portion of the unlimited text/pic/im is the actual "text message" aspect of it, any data involved with loggin into yahoo or sending/receiving a text is billed per your data package.....pay per use it's the per kilobyte rate, if you have a data backage (for example 5 mb) it will deduct from that allotment.

Correction.....I meant to say any data involved with logging into yahoo or sending/receiving a MMS is billed per your data package. Sorry.
