Phone reading "USA38" Roaming and acting up....

anon1

Can anyone tell me why my cell phone started displaying the "USA39" and Roaming stuff? I called 611 and the rep stated that a lot of similar complaints were being received. I inquired as to the probable cause and was told it sounded like another cell site was trying to pick my signal up. this took place at about 11:00 am on the 11th (Thursday). It did the same thing off and on throughout the day. I need my phone for business so if a satisfactory fix isn't forthcoming then I have to consider other options. Incidentally, I'm in the Monterey-Salinas, California area.

try powering off the phone and leaving it off for a full 30 seconds if/when this happens again. always the first step w/any technical/network issue

I did that several times for up to ten minutes at a time. It roams when it wants and just as mysteriously quits when it wants. It has done this while I'm at my residence and I have two other friends who have complained that their phones with the same carrier have been acting strange. Guess I'll give it the weekend to hopefully get the glitch fixed. Thanks

i'm assuming you have a gsm phone if your home market is in california. are you in an area that is considered roaming? what happens when you call 611? i would suggest having someone look at your accout to see if your SIM has the most current PLMN file update.

What type of phone are you using? If it's a dual band, you might be picking up AT&T's network OR you might have an 8k SIM which I heard that causes network issues due to the merger.

I do have a gsm phone and it has never done the " USA 38" and roaming thing before. The 611 folks just advised that other callers were having similar problems and if it continues to call back. They checked my account and could see nothing that might have caused the problem.Thanks.

Cingular apologizes for this inconvenience. Unfortunately no wireless provider can guarantee that they will never have technical issues but we can promise to correct these issues as fast as possible. Cingular does appreciate your business. Thank you for choosing Cingular as your wireless provider.
