Sony/Ericsson K700i ~ Cingular/ATT??????
jnillNov 11, 2004, 11:40 PM
Please help me. A few questions for you ‘in the know’ types out there.
Will the Sony/Ericsson K700i eventually be available through Cingular?
Will an unlocked version (which the local mall cart guy said he could get me for 250) work REALLY WELL or just sort of okay?
Will the fact that the phone doesn't support GSM band 850 make it a crappier phone in the US (I mostly use it in CA/NJ/NY) considering Cingular utilizes both 1900 and 850?
Finally, has anyone actually used the phone? Is it worth it or is my obsessed mind (by the way, every non-industry person contributing to this forum is obsessed too) just telling me it is?
~thanks in advance

if it doesn't have 850, don't even bother with it. at&t wireless used 850 to fill in its gaps. so unless the only cell towers you get are 1900, your coverage would suck. that, and you'd have to know the data settings to get that part of the phone to work

The k700 is a great phone (based on reviews). I have the s700 which is a higher tier phone but most still prefer the k700. Being a 1900mhz phone, I can tell you that in California, you'll be ok w/ Cingular. They still have that 1900 network available to them for 4 years (that phone will be garbage by then). Cingular WILL NOT carry it and any carrier that sees that posibility might be T-mobile. I think NY has 1900mhz also. If you have a nationwide plan, then don't worry about it as you'll have coverage where ever there's 1900mhz coverage. Check www.sonyericsson.com or contact your local T-mo or Cingular agent.
