RAZR V3 - Locked or Unlocked???
Hello all,
I thought I read in a thread awhile back that ALL Cingular cell phones were sold "unlocked"... Is that true?
I ask cuz now I am hearing that the RAZR V3 is gonna be sold locked??? Anybody else hear that?
In fact, what I heard was that ALL Cingular phones post-merger were now gonna be sold locked... Anyone got any info on this?
One of the reasons I was looking forward to switching to Cingular was that I thought their phones were all sold unlocked. Now I am reconsidering... Well, that & the $500 price tag on the RAZR V3.
Any help???

I dont' know who told you that..but our phones are sold locked. All of them.

Actually for about one month a lot of our phones were coming unlocked due to an issue with international roaming with Genesis I think it was. I have plenty of phones from my last shipment that are unlocked. That issue has been fixed, so all our phones are now coming locked.
Cingular phones are not being locked because of the buy out they are already back locked because of the international roaming issue being fixed.

Some have been unlocked for a while. The v400/v600, t616/t637 (actually most if not all SE phones). Some are still subsidy locked and it's probably the non-world phones.

neither of which are sold anymore

Still selling remaining stock of both phones. At least in the Wash/Balt market...

actually when those threads were out our World Phones WERE being sold unlocked... because we did not have enough roaming agreements int'l... Now we feel we do so the phones are being sold locked once again.

yep, all of our phones are to be SIM locked post-merger. I hate to see it, because those customers who know what "locked" and "unlocked" mean have gotten used to all our phones being unlocked. However Cingular being the large entity that it is now, with extensive international roaming agreements, it's more profitable to SIM lock the phones and take advantage of those roaming agreements. Keep in mind, roaming agreements go both ways, so if a German businessman comes to America from a company we have an agreement with then we get the $$ from that too.
After the HUGE stink some people have made on this site about the RAZR I'd better start seeing A LOT of reviews on it now that it's out officially.
