Initial Impressions of AT&T from long-term Verizon Customer

I was previously with Verizon for about 10 years. I have the Moto V710 for the past 2 plus years with Verizon. I recently got engaged so my Fiance travels a lot overseas so I decided to consolidate our bills and give AT&T a try - I signed us up for the family plan 1200 minutes, but I think we'll switch that to 2100 minutes next month. It's great that we can talk for free anytime.

I also signed up for unlimited Web, cellular video, and email and brought an advertisement from the website into the store for a free MOTORAZR V3xx. They honored the print out for the free phone and in the course of an hour signed me up and changed the plan. It did take forever, so don't go sign up if there is a line or they are busy.

Two technicians at...

Using a lot of data will run your battery down quicker than just talking, but if you know it's going to do so then it's never a problem.

Your call is probably dropping because of the 3G network. People will argue with me on this, but I swear 3G doesn't hand off to 2G well. As 3G coverage grows you should see that being less and less of a problem.

I'm glad you like Moto's new linux UI. I think it's worlds above their old versions.

I'm with you on that one ralphy I get much more complaints about coverage/dropped calls with 3g phones especially garbled calls on sync and v3xx. I tell my customers unless they absolutely need 3g data to just get a 2g phone.

The V3xx does not have the new linux UI, it's just an updated version of the Motorola Synergy platform. When you see a Moto running off the new linux platform you will see the real difference. If you ever get a chance to check out the RAZR V6 MAXX (GSM version) the software is unbelievable.

This is the only area that Verizon does shine. I have had quite a few dropped calls and unable to dial type calls.

Sounds like an awful trade off but each to his own.

I concur. My husband and I left Verizon after 10 years+. No dropped calls here on Long Island with AT&T. Customer service is excellent, 2 data plans, 2 new phones, and billing is far less than we were paying with Verizon w/o a data plan. Iam happy we ported over!

I was also with Verizon for about 10 years and switched to at&t yesterday.

I got a MOTORAZR V3xx Platinum and I really like the phone.

The service is great.

"There is no doubt that feature wise and performance wise the new 3G high-speed data network is amazing and blows away the crappy old Verizon network. It was a pleasure to see perfect videos without choppiness and be able to put in a URL and go to any site on the net."

you are comparing 3g on your new razr to the old 1x network on a v710? thats like comparing apples to a car its not the same thing. if you had a 3g phone with verizon wireless you would experienced the same speed and browsing

Yes, the post is 100% real, do you want to call me on my new phone? When I say a few dropped calls, I literly mean about 3 dropped calls in about a week and 3 times where the phone couldn't dial out. With Verizon the hand off when driving in the car is excellent, I've driven from Washington DC to NY and don't recall a single dropped call, but with AT&T I was driving home from the NJ shore and had a dropped call.

However, being able to hear the other party clearly is more important then an occasional dropped call. It takes all but a second to redial. Also, I forgot to mention that being able to use 100% of the features in Motorola Phone Tools is excellent. Verizon crippled this software and only allowed the contacts to work. Now I ...

๐Ÿ˜ณ WOW that is just nuts 3 dropped calls and three time where the phone could not even call out that is bs!!!!! hope you don't run into a real emergency situation where you really need to make a call, especially with a crappy network like that. i have verizon and i never drop calls and when the chips are down my phone works!!! some peoples priorities ๐Ÿ™„ have fun redialing ๐Ÿ™„

...why are people so freaking militant about their carrier?!
VERIZON RULEZ!
AT&T RULEZ!
I shoved both phones in my a$$ and neither worked - I'm switching to T-Mobile!

Being a jerk off to someone that switched carriers and and likes it is lame.

I totally agree. I once a att customer had no problem with their service what so ever until they merged with cingular. But the issues i had with them were more with the merging process more than actual service. now as a vzw employee i get to enjoy their service as well and have had ZERO issues to this point for over two years of being an employee. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those red kool-aid drinkers but you have to try each carrier for yourself and find which one best serves your needs. att (cool phones), verizon (great network), Sprint (cheap and fast data services), or T-mobile ( more minutes for less money). Its a personal choice and thats why they give you those test periods to make those type of decisions. Best bet is to decid...

๐Ÿคฃ The reason she has dropped cales is because of the 3g. I had a 3g phone and it did the same thing. I took it back and got one without 3g and have not had a dropped call since. 3g is new and doesn't have enough coverige yet. It is good where it works.

Two technicians attempted to transfer my contacts (about 300 plus numbers) from my Moto V710 to the new Razor V3xx. After 25 minutes I had to walk in the back and request they give up and please give me my phones back.

That was probably due to the terrible charging port/data port in the Motorola V710. I cringe every time a customer asks me to get phone numbers out of that style of Motorola phone. It only works about 20% of the time. If they spent that long on it, I would guess that they could get a connection then have the phone disconnect about halfway through. Motorola sucks.
