Yea and if you come over to Verizon where I have been for a year there is good stuff , but the way they cripple phones and services to phones is driving me away from them and going back to AT&T

Its honestly cheaper for me to goto AT&T

handset selection may not be a real draw to you, most people actually would like coverage and connection with their phone and not be concerned about hacking it to get a free ringtone or a cool wall paper.

Verizon is the absolute best in the business for cell reception, I had cingular for years and once I got VZW network I would never consider going back to such inferior service as Congular ATT offers. Every year my reception just gets better , the hand set selection is better now than 3 years ago ( Voyager, DARE, Krave, Envy, Alias, 8350, Gleam....future Storm, 9600, Omnia, Touch)

plus my plan is no where near as expensive as it was .

You will love it.

yeah because most normal consumers look for phones without a lockdown on free internet 😳

thats the only complaint ATT can have but the only thing they have over verizon phones is better blue tooth file transfer support. Quit with the lame exuses and speak to him like you would if you were in a store. Do you tell your customers " Verizon cripples their phones" because if you do, it is no wonder we never lose our people to you or anyone else ( lowest churn in the industry again !!!)

I can give him 20 legitimate reasons why Verizon is and always will be better than ATT, lets see what u can devise.

It really depends on your area. Verizon sucks where my parents live, but is awesome where I live. Seeing as how your wife has it, I don't see why it would be a problem.

Key things to remember about Verizon:

-They have a uniform UI on all of their phones that tends to lock out certain features and causes phones to act buggy (i.e. RAZR on vzw is a lot less stable than RAZR on att)

-They are on a CDMA network instead of a GSM, which basically means you do not get a SIM card, and everytime you switch phones, you have to pay an activation fee.

Honestly though, I think their phone selection is decent, you just have to work through the crap verizon shells out to try to nickel and dime you.

I did a little comparison of the two:

Current Plan with Verizon:

450 Anytime Minutes Unlimited N/W 9pm $39.99
Total Protection Insurance $5.99
Ringback Tones $0.99
Mobile Web 2.0 Self Prov $4.99
Roadside Assistance $1.50
Unlimited IN Txt/Pix/Flix Messaging with 500 additional messages $10.00

Total Cost Per Month: $63.46
+PA Tax and EMS Serv: ~$72.

Proposed Plan with AT&T (Reminder: I'll be on AT&T Premier because of my student status at PSU):

450 Anytime Minutes 5000 N/W 9pm $35.99
Wireless Phone Protection $4.99
Media Works with Unlimited Messaging $19.99

+1 With SIM cards if you trash your phone you can buy another cheap on Ebay. $50 a year plus a duductable?

$100 to "protect" your self against a $300 loss in year one

$50 in year two Plus deduct

$50 in year three......

Sounds like a terrible deal to me. Then again ALL "Extended Warranties" are.

Fredd

Nov 17, 2008, 9:26 AM
But it is not an extended warranty - the protection is against just about any cause of damage to the phone. Have had a customer get mad, throw the phone against a wall and break it get a replacement under the insurance (may have just said he dropped it). But still, it is usually not a great deal unless you are prone to damaging the phone.

where in PA do you live? Here in York ATT has much better service and even in Harrisburg ATT rules the roost. ATT and Verizon are the same as far as reception go. I've had both and prefer ATT because of not only the Rollover but the fact that they don't nickel and dime you for things that I like to get for free. People move to ATT because Verizon phones are garbage. Their GSM counterparts are much better devices. Wait till ATT gets the Storm and see if it gets bad reviews (wait, the Vodaphone Storm got great reviews). You can fanboy all you want. You have the Nerd and we have Michael Phelps. We have phone manufactures that we trust to create great UI and features. I'd also like you to send the link (it better not be Consumer Report...

You should not have been charged an activation fee for those new phones unless you are a NEW customer. Activation fees are intended for new lines of service, or accounts, not for new phones.
As for everyone talking about the whole SIM card ordeal, most CDMA carriers like Verizon have Backup Assistant which works just like a SIM card except everything is kept over-the-air and whenever you get a new phone, all your contacts can be downloaded to the new phone. AND nobody can take out anything like they can a SIM card and make it "their" phone.

GSM is nothing to brag about, thats the reason your coverage is terrible.

I'm curious to see where you are getting your numbers. Call quality is subjective and relative to equipment in hand. Coverage area is not so much. I'm assuming you are comparing this to CDMA, so what numbers are you using? What is the total square mile coverage of CDMA vs GSM in the World? I tried finding it to see what you were using for a reference but had a hard time. Being that GSM is used in more countries around the world I find it hard to believe that CDMA has more global coverage than GSM. In case you can't understand why I'm asking global coverage its because you compared GSM to CDMA in this comm...

Terrestrial GSM networks now cover more than 80% of the world’s population. GSM satellite roaming has also extended service access to areas where terrestrial coverage is not available.

http://www.gsmworld.com/technology/gsm/index.htm »

All European and African countries and many Asian countries have adopted a single system, GSM, which is the only technology available on all continents and in most countries and covers over 74% of all subscribers on mobile networks. In many countries, such as the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, India,, South Korea, and Vietnam, GSM co-exists with other internationally adopted standards such as CDMA and TDMA, as well as national standards such as iDEN in the USA and PDC in Japan....

NO ONE CARES THAT YOU WORK BETTER THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. they want coverage in THE US . If they want to the best global phones , VZW has those as well. Quad Band Storm blows ALL you have out the water because you get the best here and over seas as well.

That is something you need to decide for yourself. What are your needs compared to your wife? If they are similar then odds are you will ike it as she does. If they are different then you have to see if Verizon meets those needs.

Verizon is a very good carrier nationwide. You just need to decide if it will work well where you live, work and play.

Unless someone here has the experience to know your local area you may not get much help.

Look, I base everything on call quality, service, coverage.

Take the however many day challenge from VZW and see if the coverage in your area (or inside your house) is any good... I would say coverage in and around your location is paramount.

If the difference in plans chosen equates to a $5/mo over/under than who cares. Let's face it, the nationwide footprints of each carrier are almost the same so if you need to travel to Sheboygan occassionally it's not that big of a deal.

Ok, so all these other replies were a little too much to read, but I have been with ATT for 4 years and was also thinking of switching to Verizon for the Blackberry Storm. Long story short, I'm not eligible for upgrade till Feb and was finding it difficult to shell out $500 for the Bold.
I examined price plans for both companies, and they were very similar. I've heard pros and cons of both sides, but I had to admit that I love ATT's GSM network. I'm a "New Phone Geek" and if something new and snazzy comes out, such as the iPhone or Bold, ATT is usually the first to get it, or I can get it off Ebay and simply pop my sim card in without interrupting or changing anything with my service.
