Cingular & Credit

We're going to be selling Cingular soon and we never had it before in AZ. Can anyone give me some info about credit requirements? More specifically, how does credit worthiness compare with the other companies?

Let me give an example to make this make sense. If a customer comes in and wants a T-Mobile phone and they come up as smart access, I know that VZ will most likely charge a $400 deposit per phone, and Alltel will charge 100-200 per phone.

Where does Cingular stand in situations like this?

The reason I ask is that I get a lot of customers who are 18 or 19 with no credit history.

I just want to be prepared and be able to make good recommendations for my customers.

Thanks for any input.

Last thing I knew, Cingular was pretty strict on credit requirements. They've loosened up a bit but don't know how much.

Our credit scores come up by letter. A,B,C,D, and Z. People with no credit come up with a class Z, which used to require a $150 deposit, but I've seen some class Z's with $0 deposit also. I'm not sure if they've dropped it for everyone, or if there's a new tier for people with little/new credit. Classes A, B, and C, usually require no deposit, but I've seen deposits on D going all the way up to $850 per line. Use our new Take Charge plans for those people who don't want to pay the deposits. They're pretty reasonable and the customer only has to have a debit/credit card.

There are few credit classes... 0 deposit, 150.00, 300.00, and i think 400.00. Cingular doesn't have spending limit accounts like Sprint and Tmobile offer. My little brother was able to get service with Cingular when he was 23 and he had almost no credit and he wasn't made to pay a deposit.

Thanks for the info. That helps a lot.

I'm sorry to bombard y'all with questions, but ralh on me mentioned a Take Charge plan, what is a Take Charge plan? Also, what is the difference between the old SIM cards, like my T-Mobile phone has and the new 64K SIM cards?

Again thanks for the info. I'm cinsidering switching to Cingular when it's official here.

I know you have pretty much had your question answered, just thought I would give you input from a customer stand point. I tried to get an account with Cingular and my credit is far from perfect (recent college grad who has also been laid off and acquired some extra credit card debt).

I don't know what my credit score is, but Cingular wanted a $750.00 deposit. AT&T Wireless wanted $400. Since I couldn't afford either and my husband has better credit than I do we just put the phone in his name.
