Thinking of leaving Cingular (need your help)

Hi everybody. My first time in the forums.

I'm a current Cingular customer (been so since '02) my 2-yr. service agreement comes to an end Nov. 18. I'm in Los Angeles. I have an ancient Nokia 3390 and I'm desperately wanting to get the latest, most fashionable phone on the market when I get a new contract in 2 weeks.

I'm contemplating leaving Cingular for a new company. Why? Well, I want a fashionable top of the line video clamshell flip phone that records video, has a camera (with zoom), color screen, bluetooth, mp3 ringtones, games, etc. Currently, Cingular doesn't have a video flip phone. They only have the Nokia 6600 and I don't want that. I've been hearing massive talk about the Motorola RAZR V3, but I don't want to pay over $300 f...

Bluetooth is not a super, duper top priority for me, but it would be nice to have.

When does the SE Z500a come out?

What I'm mainly looking for is instant messaging, the ability to view e-mail, the internet, etc.

Does anyone have any definite release dates on the "30 phones"? Are they coming this month or wayyyy in February or Spring?

We are hearing November 15th. That's when the new line up of rate plans and phones will be released.

As with EVERYTHING in the wireless industry, this date could be pushed back.

Stay tuned....

Exact date isn't been released yet. All they have said is within 30 days of the FCC decision... So that will be before the end of the month.

I am sorry to hear you are thinking about jumping ship. At this moment, you have a few options to utilize.

First, as for choice of phones that are currently offered. I would think about the Nokia 6230. It is a small, feature packed phone with 4 minutes of video playback. I have one and I love it. Like you, I prefer a flip, but this phone is awesome.

Second, like most people have mentioned, wait until day one of the merger which is expected to be the 15th of this month. Here the Motorola V551, V3, and many other phones are expected to drop. I also have a V551, that I won in a sales contest. This phone only has 15sec. of video playback, but a great phone. Sony's Z500 is another option, too.

I too use to be a Sprint customer for 4 year...

If you're willing to hold on just a little bit longer for our next lineup, because it would be a shame to give up the chance of getting a sweet phone, for horrible service on a below average phone.

Just like Will said. You can wait for the v551 or the z500a (both flip video phones) or take a chance on an agent and look for an overseas GSM flip phone. Downside would be that you'll only be getting coverage from the 1900mhz network (European phones do not support 850 mhz unless they are quad-band).

Thanks to everyone who responded to my initial post. Your comments were very helpful and I got some valuable input.

From it, I've completely scratched off Sprint from my list.

It's now going to be: Stay with Cingular or Switch to T-Mobile.

I'm going to wait it out until at least Nov. 16 to see what new phones surface through Cingular.

The SE Z500a looks cool as well as the MPX220. I wonder if those two record video. Also, any new Samsung or LG models coming to Cing?

Thanks again.

Just as an FYI if you want to check out the MPX220 go to your local Best Buy (if you have one). I was there over the weekend and they already have this and are selling it. Pretty good price too - I can't remember exactly what it was but it was in the $200.00 - $250.00 dollar range with a new 2 year contract with Cingular.

It had a nice display and was pretty responsive.
