AT&T Beefing up EDGE Network in Anticipation of iPhone

In spite of the hype, remaining questions and overall speculation still remaining about the iPhone in the final weeks before its June 29th release, carrier AT&T may be doing what it can from its end to ensure a technically smooth launch.

According to Gizmodo, which cites an anonymous source in AT&T's operations deparment, AT&T has been performing last-minute refinements on its EDGE network for as many as six weeks. The changes, which went unannounced, are aimed at improving the network's throughput, latency and coverage.

Interesting, I sold a data card yesterday, im in an EDGE only market, when he clicked on Yahoo, it came right up without hesitation or delay. I wonder if this has anything to do with that?

I dont beleive it is. I think your referring to the upgrade that Ericsson developed. But I could be wrong.

lol. not sub-par... they are just tweeking it to better suit the influx of usage from iphone sales...

EDGE is not sub-par. There are classes of EDGE that go slightly slower than broadband. EDGE is also easier to expand than 3g becuase they can just turn on EDGE. 3g requires a lot bigger of a project.

I wasn't saying EDGE the technology was sub-par, I was saying the way Cingular implemented EDGE was sub-par.
