How do I know if my SIM card went bad?

Are there phases? Or does it just go bad at once? My phone is doing some weird things and I am afraid that it's the SIM card.

I have experienced some weird things. The other day I turned my phone on first thing in the morning and it wouldn't recognize a network. It kinda came on, but I didn't see Cingular's alpha tag. As if I was in a no service area. I powercycled the phone and then it said "insert SIM" for a few seconds and then before I could do anything the alpha tag Cingular came up. Isn't that weird? I know SIM cards go bad, but I thought that when they went bad, they went bad; you know...

Take out your SIM, make sure there's no crap on it. Clean it off and if the problem continues you need a new one. Rather than spending the $25 if you call Care there is a good chance they will mail you one or note your account to go pick up one at no charge at a COR store.

Whoa! At least I can just change my SIM card and not my phone... Next time I'll be more careful and not leave my phone on top on the microwave (I think this is what damaged my SIM card)

It really does depend on how long you've had the SIM...I really wouldn't worry bout the microwave thing. I doubt it would've damaged it that much if it did at all. Just go to a COR store and have them replace it, if that doesn't work, call warranty. Sometimes readers go out on the phone too. best of luck

Well, like I experienced 25 days into my new service with cingular/at&t, you can't make or receive calls or access the internet. Mine was disconnected for no apparent reason yesterday.
