GSM Unlocked Phones Question

Snuggles

Apr 20, 2007, 6:26 AM
Currently my friend is with Suncom and a piece of junk phone. Wish to upgrade to newer and nicer phone.

Options
1) Stay with Suncom and get phone through them
2) Move to Cingular
3) Get phone off unlocked gsm website (quad band) and port over to Cingular
4) Go to somebody else all together like Vzw, Alltel, Sprint

As for unlocked GSM was looking at QUad Band since Suncom uses 1900 but CIngular uses 850 mhz

Possible phones:

1) Samsung D900
2) Nokia N73
3) Sony Z710
4) Nokia 6270
5) Nokia E70
6) Samsung D600

your friend should stick with gsm. It's much better... and I can say this as an opinion since I've been on tdma and cdma networks also in the past. Plus, GSM is pretty much the worldwide standard.

cingular also uses 1900mhz in certain areas like large cities. I think the range is longer for 850 which is probably why it is used outside of the city.

If your friend gets unlocked, he/she can avoid a contract.

If he/she really wants 1900mhz, then he/she could move over to cough cough t-mobile... but their coverage is not as good. I know where my university is, cingular is really strong on campus, but t-mobile users are lucky to get a bar or two if they go outside (forget about inside phone use).
