Cingular Fined $12.1 Million
The California Public Utilities Commission fined Cingular Wireless $12.1 million after concluding the carrier violated state laws by failing to offer trial periods while imposing early termination fees on customers who sought to end their contracts. Regulators found that Cingular didn't give new subscribers a chance to change their minds during an aggressive expansion that resulted in shoddy service.

um yeah, and that is being appealed due to the fact that the CPUC has no basis for their fine. These cuistomers weren't ending their contracts during the agreed upon time frame and they got hit with fees, just like any other company.

It's actually Early Termination Fees that were charged withing 2000 - 2002 before we implemented our Buyer's Remorse policy. The suit does not take into consideration what our current business practices are. It also does not justify the fact that our Buyer's Remorse Policy was added before this investigation took place. We are appealing this decision bcz of many facts that were overlooked by this "committee"

In regards to this fine, it was unjustly imposed as I being a Cingular employee AND customer since 2000, we did have bad coverage (Really bad) and many dropped calls. But Cingular did invest over 1 Billion dollars to improve the network out here in the West. This wireless company was very pro-active in dealing with customer issues in regards to coverage and capacity (many refunds and/or credits were given to customers). I would have to take Cain's side on this. VZWman, if you're not 100% informed on this, please shut your mouth and don't trash talk. This dude will burn you to a crisp....
