ATtw BUYOUT?

Sun_Com

Nov 4, 2003, 1:22 PM
Has anyone else heard the rumor that ATTW is going to be purchasing SunCom (Triton PCS) to get the Mid-Atlantic presence they are desperately needing? I am a manager for SunCom and this could spell disaster. Triton was the only company with the brand name "SunCom" that lasted through ATTW purchase of Tricorp, but a lot of things are pointing to the fact that it is happening any time now. 😲

This rumor is not a new one. Ever since the merger with Telecorps it has always been rumored that AT&T will eventually swallow Triton as well and it would make sense to do so as well.

ATTWS is not doing that bad, they are actually one of the only carriers making a profit, from what I hear.

I can see you don't have a clue so here we go: AT&T is one of the few carriers who is actually turning a profit. Remember that you should judge how well a carrier does just by how many new customers they bring in evey qtr. The strength is mainly based by its balance sheet and AT&T is No. 2 in the industry for generating revenue. They also have the hightest ARPU in the industry with a bout $61.00 per customer. These are just some of the things you want to look for when judging a carrier. As for AT&T merging with Suncom it's very simple, Suncom brands itself under the AT&T Wireless name. Suncom sells National coverage based on the AWS network. Suncom is in markets where AWS is not in. Such places like Richmond VA, Myrtle Beac SC are prime exa...

You may be the one with no clue. AT&t has tried time in and time out to purchase Triton, but time in and time out, Triton has pushed them away. Yes it would be a perfect fit due to the "no compete" clause where At&t can not enter into markets where SunCom is, but although AT&T shows high numbers, they are still looked at very poorly in the industry and their stock price is only a few dollars higher then Triton who is looked at very very poorly. One thing AT&T would have to do if they did buy Triton is adopt SunCom's UNplan, because it is the only thing that keeps SunCom going. But SunCom has now made their "network" plans based solely on the SunCom and AT&T network where as before it was an option and cost more.

Once again you've showed me that you have no clue. Don't judge AWS based on the value of its stock. AWS is rated as a BUY and the fact that the stock value is low is not a surprise when you look at then entire Telecom industry as a whole, all stocks are in the toilet. Its this very reason why Verizon will not IPO Verizon Wireless. AWS is one of the strongest companies in the wireless industry and that is fact. AWS owns 20% of Triton and it is just a matter of time before AWS buys the rest. Consolidation in the wireless industry will happen with the smaller companies being the targets of the Big Boys. AWS shields Triton from companies like Verizon and Cingular in its Territories but that cannot and will not last forever. Other AWS affiliates ...

I'm confused as how this shows I have no clue? You just stated the same things I did, the only thing we disagree on is AT&t's reputation apparantley. I am aware that AT&T owns 19% of Triton, and the whole reason I started this thread was to see if anyone had heard a time frame on the rumor. You need to lighten up a bit, all I was asking for was information, but you've made yourself look silly by saying the same things I've already said. We are in agreement that this is bound to happen, I was just seeing if anyone had heard when.

Suncom is going to become ATT just like in Cincinatti their co. is going to become AWS and probably so i EDGE wireless in California. ATT just like all the other companies out there are going to try to fold their "partners" into one name to help w/ system compatibility, equip launches. oh yeah, don't forget decreased roaming charges, and better billing integration. these are the problems Sprint is facing with the lawsuits from "partners"..sucks to be them .

Yes Suncom is a member, but they are not owned by AT&t. The rumor I am hearing is that they are BUYING! SunCom. If you have Triton reps sitting across from you then you will know that Triton and AT&T operate as separate companies with separate plans etc.
