AT&T TDMA vs GSM

I have been an AT&T customer for about 5 years. The offered much better coverage and service than Sprint. About a year ago I tried T-Mobile, that was a disaster that I won't repeat. Poor phones, poor service and poor customer treatment.

To my problem. For about the last six months my service seems to have deteriorated badly. Calls that echo in my ear-piece, calls that don't go through, a lot of static and interference. Dropped calls and on and on.

I have asked customer service, they claim there are no system problems. I have asked if more attention is being given to the new GSM, they assure me not, but can't answer why the call quality is dropping off

Customer service has always been willing to listen and try to understand, but...

I have checked into it. The phone works fine, no problems except when driving. Especially up and down the 5 freeway and 405 freeway in San Diego and Orange Counties. It is while driving that I experience the problems previously described. I have also noticed particular spots where I will have weak reception and/or dropped calls, that previously were not a problem, say prior to about six months ago.

I suppose that it still could be the phone, AT&T doesn't seem to provide tech service to verify hand set issues. Their solution is to buy a new phone or turn the old one in on an insurance claim.

I am using a Nokia 8265. it has been a good phone and I generally like and prefer Nokia products. It is about 14 months old, the phone shoul...

Why not just go to GSM? Commit to the contract, if it is worse then you have a 30 day window to return it. Just have to pay for the days you use the phone. Cant really hurt as long as you dont go over that 30 days.

Every company is like that. They all are here to grow their base. AT&T is one of the better companies to treat their existing customers well, wait till your contract with Verizon comes up and see how much they will charge you for a new phone. At least with AT&T you get the same deals as someone new walking in off the street. As far as cingular in Ca ask them why they were just fined $12,000,000 for unfair billing.
