Coverage question

Alphonse

Dec 18, 2003, 1:16 PM
Hi all,

I have an old Nokia 6162 phone and am looking at getting a newer more modern phone. It appears most of the new phones are GSM mode. I had pretty good coverage with my old phone using Analog and TDMA. Will I get the same sort of coverage with a GSM phone. I travel a great deal with work and have residences in both Canada and the US. Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

Al.

How would you know what the original poster needs or not? He simply stated he needs coverage in the US and Canada... he didn't say specifically where, so GSM might just work for him!

TDMA: Coverage is much larger due to roaming agreements and AMPS. Plus TDMA is more widespread across both the US and Canada. The rate plans that cover both the US and Canada are expensive though. You'd have to sign up on the OneRate plan ($59.99+) and add Canada for an extra $19.99 ...

GSM: The coverage isn't as widespread, but it will get much better. AT&T, Cingular and T-Mobile are all putting effort to expand GSM. The rate plans are much better (at least i think they are). I'm not quite sure if the North America add on is still in tact, but if it is. Y...

LMAO calm down i am jsut stating that tdma will more then likly be best suited for the needs as it his a stronger system. i deal with customers who are going through this at least 20 times a day and it always leads to the same thing. the gsm system is not that strong yet. it is good in big cities yes but when you look at the maps its not as good as tdma out in the less populated areas in my opinion and i have to look at them constantly for the customer. to get the best of both worlds multiband is the way to go. as for the calling canada you can get the north america package on any nat'l plan (except sharables) for 9.99.

The point is you should not eliminate options for someone in question without being able to back it up. Give them all the options, not what you think would work for them.

Well your supervisor wouldn't like your opinions because they're based on false information. Do some reasearch before telling customers that GSM 'isn't as strong'. It just has less expansive of coverage. Jeez.

screw my supervisor and what i do here is home at work i will research all that i have to here i will do what i like in my opinion and from my experience over the last year i have noticed that gsm is not yet as good as tdma and i know i have hundreds of people that agree. either way draw the line...this is not work what we do here has no impact on my work. this is something i do for ENTERTAINMENT and this is not paying the bills so why should i really care or give my all like i do for those who i work for and who calls and actually is paying for me to do what i have to. like i said this is ENTERTAINMENT screw my supervisor this is not work

I happen to know this guy in person. I have to tell you he is just here because he is bored and has no life. He thinks it's funny to come here and bullshit and say stupid things. I have seen his stats and he is apparently good at what he does. He is just an idiot when he is bored.
